Novartis (NYSE:NVS) shares gap up - time to Buy?

Novartis (NYSE:NVS) shares gap up - time to Buy? Novartis AG (NYSE:NVS - Get Free Report) gapped up prior to trading on Tuesday. The stock had previously closed at $152.06, but opened at $162.15. Novartis shares last traded at $161.64, with a volume of 1,164,231 shares. Stocks & Bonds Key Novartis news. Here are the key news stories impacting Novartis this week: * Remibrutinib cleared two Phase III multiple sclerosis trials. The oral drug significantly reduced annualized relapse rates versus teriflunomide (Aubagio) in relapsing multiple sclerosis and also showed favorable results on MRI lesion measures. Novartis said a combined analysis indicated a clinically meaningful delay in disability progression, strengthening the drug's potential commercial profile and supporting plans for global regulatory submissions. * The positive MS data are viewed as an important growth catalyst. Analysts and investors see remibrutinib as a potential future blockbuster in a large market, particularly because it outperformed an established treatment and reportedly showed no liver-safety signal. The results prompted a sharp prior-session rally and could improve confidence in Novartis' longer-term product pipeline. * Novartis signed a potential $3.2 billion Hybrozyme agreement with Alteogen. The deal could expand access to Alteogen's drug-delivery technology and support development or commercialization of future medicines, though the financial commitment and deal milestones may limit the near-term earnings benefit. * Novartis plans to relocate laboratory activities and shut down some Basel production operations, potentially affecting about 130 jobs. The restructuring may improve efficiency over time but creates near-term execution and employee-transition costs. * Novartis paused eight autoimmune and neurological cell-therapy trials after three patient deaths. The pauses raise safety, regulatory and development risks for the experimental rap-cel program and prompted a customer-related setback for Oxford BioMedica, though the issue is separate from remibrutinib. Novartis to cut up to 130 jobs in Basel.

Novartis to cut up to 130 jobs in Basel. Published on September 2, 2026 The pharmaceutical company Novartis is cutting up to 130 jobs in Basel by the end of 2027. The reason, the company announced on Wednesday, is that it is discontinuing the small-scale production of biologics in the Kleinbasel district. In the future, other biologics sites around the world will take over the tasks of the Basel plant. The reason for discontinuing production is that individual lease agreements at the Kleinbasel site are coming to an end. Consequently, further operations will be relocated from the Kleinbasel district to the Novartis Campus on the opposite bank of the Rhine, according to the press release. These include laboratories for biological cell banks, analytical testing procedures and technical development activities. + Swiss pharma giant Novartis to cut over 500 jobs at Stein plant The move represents the next step in the previously announced plans to establish a new centre for the technical development of biologics on the campus, the press release continues. (KOSDAQ: 196170), a leading biopharmaceutical company specializing in platform technologies, announced today that it has entered into an option and license agreement with Novartis for the development and commercialization of subcutaneous (SC) products utilizing ALT-B4 powered by Alteogen's Hybrozyme(TM) technology. Under the terms of the agreement, Novartis will have multiple options to obtain exclusive rights to develop and commercialize subcutaneous formulations for multiple Novartis products using Alteogen's ALT-B4 (berahyaluronidase alfa). Novartis surges 6% as MS drug remibrutinib hits Phase 3 goals in two trials

Novartis shares surged approximately 6% to $161.10 on Tuesday after its oral drug remibrutinib met primary endpoints in two Phase 3 trials for multiple sclerosis. The treatment demonstrated fewer relapses and brain lesions compared to teriflunomide, without raising anticipated liver-safety concerns. Pooled trial data indicated the drug may slow disability progression, offering an additional advantage in the MS treatment market. Remibrutinib is currently marketed as Rhapsido for chronic hives, generating $64 million in second-quarter sales. Full trial results are scheduled for October, with global regulatory submissions to follow. At $161.10, Novartis shares trade 23.13% above their estimated fair value of $130.84. The rally occurred despite the company suspending eight rap-cel studies following three deaths from severe immune reactions, though that programme is separate from remibrutinib.
