Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.
  • A current Registered Nurse license in the state where the worksite is located is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • The ability to assess, prioritize, plan, and implement patient care effectively is required.
  • The ability to respond to emergent situations is required.
  • Previous nursing experience in at least one of the following settings is preferred: Operating Room, surgical, ambulatory surgical center, Pre/Post-Op, PACU, ICU, Medical-Surgical, or Telemetry.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Amkai Office and Amkai Charts Database software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of patient monitoring and emergency equipment is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.
  • The role requires frequent walking, sitting, and standing; regular bending, stooping, and reaching; the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 pounds; fine motor skills and full use of the hands; visual and auditory acuity; and occasional driving or climbing.
  • The ability to maintain effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and staff, and to work independently and within a group, is required.
  • The ability to organize work, manage time effectively, and follow assigned schedules is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document nursing care in accordance with federal, state, accreditation, and ambulatory surgery center standards and policies.
  • Provide direct patient care and maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment.
  • Supervise and direct patient care in an individual operating room.
  • Ensure proper techniques and practices are used according to accepted standards of practice.
  • Comply with HIPAA regulations and protect patient rights.
  • Perform duties ethically and legally within the scope of the nursing license.
  • Supervise other personnel in the operating room and direct or assist them as necessary.
  • Report unusual occurrences immediately to charge personnel and document them in the patient record.
  • Coordinate patient care to maintain nursing accountability, communication, and continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate and legible medical records.
  • Participate in continuing education, in-service training, staff meetings, and the quality assessment and performance improvement program.
  • Follow physician orders and management directions.
  • Participate in developing a healthy work environment and assist in training new staff when needed.
  • Perform scrub duties and circulating duties as necessary.
  • Maintain counts of sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure no items are lost.
  • Position patients, prepare the operative area, and adjust the operating table according to policy.
  • Ensure supplies and equipment are available in the room and provide them to the team as needed.
  • Open sterile packs and supplies using aseptic technique.
  • Assist surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other personnel as needed.
  • Observe patients for changes in condition.
  • Review surgeon preference cards for desired medications and verify them with the surgeon.
  • Ensure medications are administered and charted according to policy, and identify and record patient responses when necessary.
  • Care for specimens and cultures according to policy.
  • Accompany patients to the post-anesthesia care unit and give report to the post-operative nurse.
  • Assist with control and maintenance of supplies and equipment, including recording equipment use and checking rooms, materials, and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment through continued attention to safety and aseptic techniques.
  • Control traffic and personnel to support infection control and asepsis.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Amkai Office and Amkai Charts Database software is preferred.
