About the team

Onboarding is the front door of Stripe. As the first impression users have of Stripe, we play a critical role in building and maintaining user trust. We care about the end-to-end journey of a new user signing up, activating payments and other features, and keeping businesses compliant as regulations and financial partners evolve over time. Stripe will succeed at our mission of increasing the GDP of the internet only if we succeed in tailoring our onboarding process to be as simple as possible while adapting to the enormous growth in complexity in the types of businesses we can support in the global financial marketplace. Onboarding sits at the center of regulatory compliance, fraud and risk, security, and marketing, and we work thoughtfully to balance these scales in order to provide the minimal amount of user friction to businesses looking to use Stripe to access the global internet economy. 

What you’ll do

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain services that power Stripe’s merchant dashboard experience including Onboarding and Account Health surfaces
• Partner with Product Managers, UX Designers, Data Scientists, and others, to root-cause systemic issues and propose new solutions to address them
• Work with a wide range of systems, processes, and technologies to own and solve problems end-to-end
• Uphold our high engineering standards and bring consistency to the many codebases and processes you will encounter
• Launch new features safely to a global audience of millions of businesses with the use of observability tools like logs, metrics, alarms, etc
• Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in a high-stakes production environment
• Empathy, strong communication skills and a deep respect for the power of collaboration
• A learning mindset, regardless of level or experience
• The ability to drive clear next steps when encountering ambiguous spaces without clear lines of ownership
• High standards for code quality and a constructive attitude to help others raise the bar
• An ability to think creatively and holistically about reducing risk in a complex environment

Preferred qualifications

• Compliance and risk experience is a plus but not a requirement
• Full-stack experience with a modern React-based (or equivalent) framework is a plus but not a requirement
