Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • At least three years of technical or practical experience in industrial facility power distribution design up to 600 VAC and 220 VDC with signal propagation is required.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, industry standards, and best practices is required.
  • Strong familiarity with the National Electrical Code NFPA 70 is required.
  • Working knowledge of electrical design systems for industrial facilities is required.
  • The ability to interpret and apply applicable project electrical codes, including NEC/NFPA 70, CEC, IEC, ISA, and AGA, is required.
  • The ability to use SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant Instrumentation, and SmartPlant 3D to design electrical power and control systems is required.
  • The ability to develop electrical design calculations, equipment and cable sizing, electrical drawings, schedules, layouts, and control schematics is required.
  • The ability to coordinate project design work and meet engineering deliverable schedules is required.
  • The ability to provide technical support during equipment manufacturing and commissioning is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, electrical load lists, motor lists, wiring diagrams, control schematics, cable schedules, and termination schedules.
  • Develop power system plans, lighting plans, electrical room layouts, elevation drawings, conduit and cable-tray arrangements, and hazardous-area classifications.
  • Perform calculations and size breakers, overload devices, relays, cables, conduits, and related equipment; calculate illumination levels; and maintain bills of materials.
  • Develop or review electrical, control, and instrumentation wiring diagrams and cable lists generated by SmartPlant Electrical or SmartPlant Instrumentation.
  • Prepare purchase specifications for electrical equipment and select vendors for electrical packages.
  • Generate electrical drawing packages documenting logic, point-to-point wiring, and system interaction.
  • Interpret and integrate design requirements from the parent company.
  • Meet with vendors and ensure technical and schedule requirements are met.
  • Interpret and respond to technical inquiries from customers, vendors, and field personnel.
  • Develop schedules, coordinate, and manage designs for projects of varying sizes with minimal supervision from the project lead.
  • Simplify product designs to improve manufacturability and reduce cost without compromising product quality or function.
  • Assist Sales and Marketing and Development Engineering with projects to enhance existing products and develop new product lines.
  • Lead junior engineers and interns and support their development.
  • Travel up to 10% for project work.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures and report unsafe activities.
  • Participate in team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Handle assignments, including rework, in a timely manner to meet schedule deadlines.
  • Follow policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Ensure product quality by following standard work and process instructions and identifying potential quality risks.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least five years of technical or practical experience is desired.
  • Experience working with generators rated at 150 MVA and above for gas or steam turbines and their auxiliaries is preferred.
  • Power plant experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of NEMA, IEC, IEEE, ISA, ANSI, NFPA 70E, UL, CSA, TUV, AGA, and other codes and standards is desirable.
  • Expertise with SmartPlant Electrical, including report, symbol, filter, rule, and reference-data creation, batch-mode operations, data maintenance, and effective tool utilization, is a plus.
  • Past experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation is a plus.
  • Past experience with SmartSketch is a plus.
  • At least two years of SmartPlant 3D experience, or significant expertise creating electrical tray and conduit specifications, designing trays and conduits, creating tray and conduit drawings, and extracting bills of materials, is desired.
  • Experience with Revit 3D or a comparable three-dimensional electrical design tool will be considered.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
  • Familiarity with lighting calculation software such as DIALux or Visual and the ability to analyze results against code requirements is desired.
  • Inclination toward computer programming languages is highly encouraged.
