Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 8 years of applicable experience in control systems and/or protective relaying, or
  • Master's Degree with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and 6 years of applicable experience in control systems and/or protective relaying.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of analytical techniques for designing and setting protective relaying systems, including short circuit analysis and relay coordination to detect electrical disturbances and ensure rapid isolation of faults, required.
  • Proven expertise in engineering codes, specification development, project and workflow management, required.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation communication skills, and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with personnel on all levels and be able to motivate employees, required.
  • Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), required.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and analytical abilities, required.
  • Previous supervisory experience and/or project or team lead experience, required.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the design of new and upgraded protective relaying systems for transmission facilities, including distribution substations selecting relaying schemes, approving equipment, reviewing engineering drawings, and issuing relay settings.
  • Oversee the issuance of Relay Protection Summaries for new and upgraded systems, and update the Tele-Protection Matrix and Automatic Reclosing Tabulation as needed based on project-driven changes.
  • Participate in periodic Relay Operation Review meetings attended by Central Operation executives, directors, and managers with emphasis on upcoming project work intended to improve the performance of relaying systems.
  • Provide technical expertise in discipline of responsibility, respond and resolve field issues, support operating groups, including Business Continuity drills and participate in CERC during corporate emergencies guiding the analysis of system events.
  • Foster teamwork and open communication both internally within the section and externally with stakeholders in other organizations and outside entities.
  • Develop and manage activities of outside consultants and ensure procedures and controls are implemented and followed.
  • Develop, review, and maintain engineering guidelines, standards, specifications and procedures.
  • Promote workplace diversity while leading and managing team members, fostering their technical and professional development through mentorship, performance guidance, and growth opportunities.
  • Coordinate activities with other sections and provide supervision and guidance to section personnel in executing assigned functions.
  • Manage Clearing and O&M budgets, track performance against KPIs and goals, allocate resources effectively, and represent the company on engineering and technical committees.
  • Promote integrity, honesty, professionalism, and excellence while ensuring adherence to proper housekeeping practices.
  • Arrange for technical training sessions when needed and/or as opportunity permits.
  • Participate and represent the company on engineering and technical industry committees.
  • Perform special projects and other assignments as needed.
