Power Electronics Controls Engineer
As a Power Electronics Controls Engineer at Lunar, you will be responsible for building power electronics simulations and for developing control methods, algorithms, and firmware for all of Lunar’s electrification systems. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about decarbonizing residential buildings and building a more sustainable future. On a given day at Lunar, you’ll likely…
- Develop detailed simulation models of power electronics and associated control systems for all of Lunar’s power conversion systems
- Create, design, implement, and validate control algorithm with balanced theoretical analysis and simulation
- Develop detailed system-level simulation models and perform stability and worst case analysis
- Work with the firmware engineering team to integrate the control algorithm into firmware implementation
- Define validation methods and tests for confirming expected behaviors and performance of developed control firmware
- Be the part of system architecture concept design, topology selection, trade-off study and decision making
- Support product and engineering requirements and design using simulation modeling outputs
- Communicate proposals, results, and specifications through clear, information-rich data visualizations
Desired Skills:
- Masters or PhD in power electronics with power electronics control focus
- Strong understanding of power electronics, photovoltaic systems, and Li-ion batteries
- Fluent with power electronics simulation tools such as Plecs, MATLAB/Simulink, etc.
- Experienced with embedded firmware development for real-time controls systems
- Familiarity with hardware in the loop is a plus
- Familiarity with inverter control design for IEEE 1547 is plus
- Familiarity with power electronics stability analysis and methods of stabilization is a plus
- Industry experience with power electronics control design for compliance and regulation is a strong plus
- Strong data visualization and technical communication skills

Our Compensation Philosophy: Our goal is to ensure that all Lunar Energy employees are fairly compensated. Please note that the salary range information that follows is a good faith estimate for this position provided pursuant to the Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act for California applicants. The salary range estimate for this position depending on level of experience is: $120k - $150k USD.
