  • PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, genetics, chemical or biological engineering or related field
  • At least 2 years of industrial research experience engineering microbial metabolism or developing new synthetic biology tools in microorganisms selected from yeasts, bacteria or filamentous fungi. Relevant academic experience will also be considered
  • Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to actively monitor project progress, meet deadlines, and work within cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to actively mentor, advise and manage junior team members for successful outcomes
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey project plans and technical details to a wide range of internal teams, external customers

  • Provide unique technical input on synthetic biology, metabolic design and metabolic engineering of target host organisms to your team to ensure project success
  • Analyze host organism physiology to identify bottlenecks limiting organism performance and re-design organisms to alleviate bottlenecks and improve performance
  • Collaborate with customers and internal process development teams to establish bench scale processes based upon novel strains that you or your team have developed
  • Support efforts to deploy novel technology around adapting new host organisms and new genetic tools to foundry operations
  • Provide critical input on team performance and the technical success of team projects; Support the continued development of high-performing teams
  • Develop projects plans and communicate project performance to Codebase team leadership and external customers
  • Mentor and coach junior teammates in the Codebase team on metabolic engineering strategies and techniques
  • Assist Commercial Operations in evaluating new project opportunities from a technical perspective as well as proposing work plans, budgets and timelines
  • Assist with shaping the Codebase team's growing technical capabilities and support its evolving needs, as necessary
