Requirements
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years, preferably in Corrections, addictions, social justice.
  • Able to obtain clearance of protected B information with Correctional Services Canada (This is mandatory).
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Narcan/Naloxone Training or willingness to obtain.
  • Trauma informed care training or willingness to obtain.
  • De-escalation training or willingness to obtain.
  • First Aid/CPR.
  • Mental Health First Aid.
  • Minimum one year experience in a setting working with Provincial or federal clientele.
  • Experience working within the field of Mental Health and Addictions is a strong asset.
  • Experience in addictions, social science or justice is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Behaviour Based Model.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
  • Basic knowledge of addictions and recovery program.
  • Awareness of Indigenous culture.
  • Must be willing and able to pass Government of Canada Correctional Services Canada Personnel Screening. Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector. Clearance of Protected B information.
  • Incumbent must be able to walk 3 flights of stairs.
  • Incumbent must be able to lift objects up to 30 lbs.
Responsibilities
  • Provide general support and supervision to residents to ensure that their emotional, psychological, and physical needs are met, adhering to the policies and procedures of the residence.
  • Prepare and present shift exchange to share information with the next shift and provide consistency in the home for all residents and staff.
  • Report incidents/issue that require immediate management intervention.
  • Be aware of all residents and their activities, and follow through with case plans, expectations and required programming for each resident
  • Care for residents health needs and seek medical attention in a timely manner
  • Ensure the safety of all the residents and the property, as per program standards
  • Assist in connecting clients with appropriate health supports through referrals and community collaboration
  • Know resources in the community such as the OARS clinic
  • Complete assigned tasks in accordance with the organization policies, procedures, and standards to maintain a high level of quality, service, cleanliness, and safety while performing said tasks
  • Ensure that the environment of the program is supportive, nurturing, and encourages a high degree of resident involvement including decision making. Be available to residents on a daily basis as needed.
  • Prepare shift exchange and care for residents' needs.
  • Document program requirements, process and report as needed.
  • Keep timecards and support documents updated.
  • Document daily activities and behaviours of residents in logbook Fill out incident reports as necessary.
  • Develop and document options and recommendations to issues and problems as they arise.
  • Monitoring of curfews.
  • Monitor the security cameras throughout the shift.
  • Able to carry out regular facility checks during the shift, including wellness checks, curfew checks, room checks and security rounds on residents, as per CRF program policies and procedures.
  • Breathalyzing residents, as per program policies and procedures.
  • Support residents in understanding the implications of options and decisions.
  • Work with Case Management team to provide resident information that helps develop case plans, communicate effectively with residents so that they are aware of the supports, resources and rules that are here for them.
  • Provide medication to residents.
  • Able to respond to medical emergencies.
  • Perform cleaning duties as assigned by the program supervisor.
  • Responsible for giving out linen, hygiene products etc.
  • Conduct fire drills, as per policies and procedures.
  • Remain vigilant, alert, awake and focused throughout the shift.
  • Strictly follow program policies and procedures and implement these into daily tasks Maintain professional boundaries with residents.
  • Other duties within reason as deemed necessary.
  • Work in co-operation with other staff members in job related areas and treat all residents, and other transitional living program residents with respect, dignity and confidentiality.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working within the field of Mental Health and Addictions is a strong asset.
  • Experience in addictions, social science or justice is a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Behaviour Based Model.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite.
  • Awareness of Indigenous culture.
