Requirements
  • Nursing education: BSN or Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing is required; Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science with a major in nursing is preferred.
  • Licensed in the state where practicing, in good standing, in the area of specialty (State of Michigan).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license for roles requiring system coverage.
  • Basic Life Support certification within the orientation period; BLS Instructor status required within one year of hire.
  • Advanced Life Support Instructor status determined by department needs.
  • Demonstrated competencies to provide services appropriate to the age of the population served.
  • Ability to operate and perform basic computer programs associated with documentation and record keeping in the department.
Responsibilities
  • Learn Facilitator: Use the educational design process to bridge knowledge, skills, and/or practice gaps identified through a needs assessment.
  • Change Agent: Actively work to transform processes at micro, meso, and macrosystem levels through inspiration, initiation, adaptation and sustainment of change using project management and improvement processes.
  • Mentor: Advance the profession by contributing to the professional development of others and supporting life-long learning as individuals develop across practice, professional and educational settings.
  • Leader: Influence the interprofessional practice and learning environments, the Nursing Professional Development specialty, the nursing profession, and healthcare.
  • Champion for Scientific Inquiry: Promote generation and dissemination of new knowledge and use of evidence to advance Nursing Professional Development practice and guide clinical practice and patient care.
  • Advocate for Nursing Professional Development Specialty: Actively support, promote, and demonstrate nursing professional development as a nursing practice specialty.
  • Partner for Practice Transitions: Support the transition of nurses and other healthcare team members across learning and practice environments, roles, and professional stages.
  • Life Support: Serve as expert resource on Emergency Cardiovascular Care issues and protocols; conduct Instructor courses; monitor course directors and Training Center Faculty; schedule all instructors in Life Support programs; become an instructor for Life Support programs as appropriate (ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, ENPC, RQI); oversee improvements of Life Support Programs and deployment of new equipment; assure regulatory compliance and updated standards and policies.
