Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Three to five years of experience operating and setting up 5-axis computer numerical control machining centers in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience programming with Lemoine and/or PowerMill is preferred.
  • Experience with Fanuc- and Heidenhain-controlled computer numerical control machines is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of 5-axis machining principles, tooling, machine setups, and workholding techniques is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering computer-aided design designs and work to tight tolerances is required.
  • Experience inspecting precision components using a variety of measuring equipment is required.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality are required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment is required.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday is required.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds is required.
  • Ability to climb stairs and work in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Comfort working around varying temperatures, noise levels, dust, and other manufacturing conditions is required.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and other protective equipment, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate 5-axis computer numerical control machining centers.
  • Program and optimize toolpaths using Lemoine and/or PowerMill.
  • Read and interpret engineering computer-aided design designs, red-line dimensions, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements.
  • Perform machine setups, prove out new programs, and optimize machining processes.
  • Select appropriate tooling, workholding, and machining strategies for complex components.
  • Conduct in-process and final inspections using precision measuring equipment.
  • Verify that parts meet quality and dimensional requirements.
  • Deburr and clean finished components.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, programming, and production teams to meet customer deadlines.

Ultra-Strong Plastic PolymersWhen studying ultra-resistant materials, the conversation often veers toward hard metals, from ordinary iron to more exotic titanium, tungsten, or rhenium (follow the link for a dedicated investment report for each).But this is not the only form of ultra-strong material. Another option is to use strong polymers, especially for applications where weight and flexibility are important as well, not just pure hardness and high melting point.One such well-known material is Kevlar. The DuPont (DD -0.41%) owned material is most famous for its use in bulletproof vests and is also used for ropes, industrial and emergency protective equipment, aerospace, fiber optics, and even outdoor consumer products.The secret to Kevlar strength is a dense mesh of molecular bonds on a tight 2D plane, including hydrogen bonds and many aromatic rings (hexagons made of carbons), somewhat similar to natural silk, except even stronger.There is however no physics rule saying that Kevlar is the strongest polymer material. An even stronger alternative has been discovered by researchers at Duke University, Cornell University, and Northwestern University.They released their results in the prestigious publication Science under the title “Mechanically interlocked two-dimensional polymers”1.A New Type Of Polymer ChainmailKevlar derives its strength from molecular bonds in a 2D plane. But generally, the strongest materials tend to have a more complex 3D structure.For example, chainmail as a whole is much stronger than the individual rings forming it.
