Job Description Summary

The Westwater Lab at MUSC is seeking a highly motivated, well-organized, and detail-oriented undergraduate to join our research team. This position offers an immediate start and provides the opportunity to gain comprehensive research experience while developing knowledge and skills. The goal of our research is to understand how microbial communities influence the strength, density, and composition of the human skeleton. Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the candidate will perform biological procedures and analyses in a basic science laboratory.

Job Description

• Perform molecular, cellular, and biochemical techniques including DNA/RNA/protein isolation, quantitative real time PCR, immunoassays, and microscopy. Essential – 35%
• Perform bone analysis techniques including imaging, histology, and histomorphometry analyses. Essential – 30%
• Perform basic lab maintenance responsibilities including glassware washing, sterilization, and solution preparation. Essential – 20%
• Facilitate and maintain computerized data entry and record keeping of experimental protocols, data and research results. The research specialist will also assist in writing protocols and data presentation. Essential – 15%

Additional Job Description

Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and two years work experience in a clinical or research setting; a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or other natural, life or health care science may be substituted for the two years of required experience.
