Requirements
  • Ph.D in Conservation Biology, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field. ABD will be considered.
  • One year of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated experience with advancing a learning environment that is conducive to students. For instance, experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities, selection of course content, subject matter experts, and working with diverse student populations.
  • Experience in the areas of conservation biology in teaching or research settings.
Responsibilities
  • Teach 24 credit hours during the academic year, where each course typically constitutes four credit hours. Courses taught will include Introduction to Conservation Biology, Ecology, Conservation Biology, Topics in Conservation Biology, and other courses in the candidate's area of specialty. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to teach non-majors courses, study away courses, and first year seminars.
  • Provide academic and career advising to students.
  • Contribute to the college’s General Education Program, as determined to be appropriate in consultation with the Department Chair.
  • Mentor student capstone research projects within the Natural Science Undergraduate Research Sequence.
  • Participate in and contribute to the business of the Biology and Chemistry Department.
  • Develop a research program that involves undergraduate students.
  • Engage in service to the life of the College.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two or more years of full-time teaching experience as the instructor of record at the undergraduate level.
  • Demonstrated track record of scholarship in the areas of conservation or ecology, including peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience mentoring undergraduates in research.
  • Experience teaching foundational biology and conservation courses.
  • Experience working either as or in collaboration with a conservation practitioner in a non-profit or governmental setting.
  • Evidence of experiential and applied learning pedagogy.
