Lumentum is seeking a junior/intermediate Engineering Technician to join our world-class R&D team. This is an opportunity to acquire new skills and knowledge while contributing to the development of advanced optical communications products and the development of the processes used to fabricate and test such products. The Engineering Technician will work with electronics, mechanical and optics technology in a laboratory setting.
A recent graduate of an Engineering Technology program who is motivated, intelligent, diligent, skilled, and can demonstrate the potential for growth is an ideal candidate for this role.
JOB DUTIES & TASKS:
- Assemble product prototypes, production tooling and experimental apparatus.
- Prepare and conduct experiments. Report and interpret the experimental results.
- Maintain lab infrastructure, equipment and instruments. Manage ordering of lab supplies and instruments, maintenance of instrument calibration, application of safety protocols.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Engineering Technology
- Demonstrate practical mechanical aptitude
- Ability to read electrical schematic and mechanical engineering drawings
- Ability to consistently apply meticulous attention to detail
- Adept in the application of tools, instruments and sensors commonly used in an electronics or optics lab
- Skill and dexterity in the handling, manipulation and assembly of very small, delicate objects, sometimes requiring the use of a microscope
- Strong written and oral communications skills in the English language
- Working knowledge of mathematics applicable to data analysis
- Fluent in the use of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)

- Experience in electronics assembly and test, precision hand soldering
- Experience in micro-optics assembly and optical fiber splicing
