Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer by the State of Michigan
  • Passed FE license exam; or alternatives accepted by State of Michigan or 5 years' experience including (9) months' experience in Construction Engineering and (9) months of Design Engineering (without FE)
  • At least five years experience including at least 18 months of Roads Maintenance Construction/Design
  • Experience must also include (3) months in Engineering Survey
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a safe and acceptable driving record no more than 7 points
Responsibilities
  • Manage the winter maintenance program for snow and ice.
  • Handle citizen communications and complaint investigations on the county and MDOT road Systems.
  • Regular communications with Department Managers, DPS Department Supervisors, MDOT Maintenance Engineer and Techs, City and Township DPW/DPS, Wayne County Engineering, Contractors, Commissioners Offices, Residents.
  • Liaison with MDOT, Townships, Cities regarding road maintenance
  • Inspect County roads and drainage systems to determine needed maintenance and repairs.
  • Investigation and communications of right-of-way vacations with Real Estate Office.
  • Investigation and communications of repairs with the Permits Division.
  • Investigation and communications with Drains Office.
  • Determination of maintenance needs, procedure development, task assignment and inspection.
  • Coordination with other maintenance groups within Wayne County.
  • Assist the Sr. Licensed Professional Engineer of Roads Maintenance with determining maintenance needs.
  • Review plans for future projects.
  • Direct supervision and oversight of Department Managers, with the ability to assign work and review completed projects.
  • Emergency Spill Coordinator for all County yards (PIPP)
  • Investigate complaints from various sources.
  • Mange District Supervisors with all aspects of roadway maintenance.
  • Inspect County roads and drainage systems to determine needed maintenance and repairs.
  • Estimate quantities and prepare cost estimates.
  • Act as the division representative at the EOC for the Emergency Management Division
  • Coordinate road repairs with crews and subcontractors.
  • Oversee surveys for maintenance improvements.
  • Process work order service requests.
  • Report costs for work performed.
  • Review plans, contracts and bid documents.
  • Attend/host various meetings biweekly with MDOT and supervisory staff.
