Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physical Sciences, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory, or Medical Laboratory Science is required.
  • Experience meeting Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments requirements for Technical Consultant/Supervisor and General Supervisor, dependent on credentials and testing performed, is required.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Technologist is required.
  • Florida licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in at least Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Immunohematology (Blood Bank) is required.
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist or American Medical Technologists certification is required.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
  • The role requires the ability to interact effectively with customers, understand their needs, and explain data.
  • The role requires effective in-person and telephone communication with members, employer groups, brokers, physicians, and physician office staff using customer service competencies.
  • Written communication skills are required.
  • Technical competence in the principles and procedures of the assigned laboratory disciplines is required.
  • Understanding of laboratory regulatory issues and laboratory Quality Management Systems and Quality Assurance is required.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the day-to-day technical operations of assigned facilities in collaboration with the Program Director to maximize service while minimizing cost.
  • Ensure that accurate and adequate laboratory services are provided in a timely manner.
  • Implement operational changes and improvements using laboratory knowledge and experience.
  • Travel between laboratories as needed and on a regular basis.
  • Oversee the receipt and acceptance or rejection of laboratory specimens.
  • Perform waived and moderate- to high-complexity procedures in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, serology, immunohematology, and cytology for disease analysis, treatment, and diagnosis.
  • Operate and maintain complex laboratory analyzers.
  • Make independent decisions to report normal and abnormal test results.
  • Manage blood product inventory, test system reagents, and laboratory supplies.
  • Monitor and revise the Laboratory Quality Plan with the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Lab Director and Technical Supervisor.
  • Implement quality and service improvements.
  • Report and respond to technical laboratory incidents, errors, and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a delegated Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Technical Consultant and General Supervisor to ensure regulatory, licensing, safety, and accreditation requirements are fulfilled, including proficiency testing, quality controls, and method verification.
  • Write, review, and implement cost-center policies and procedures for approval by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Lab Director or administrative director.
  • Enforce Hospital Partner policies.
  • Perform hiring recommendations, performance evaluations, initial training, competency assessments, remedial actions, and disciplinary actions.
  • Oversee and complete payroll functions.
  • Schedule staff and make workstation assignments.
  • Support and prepare laboratory staff to serve customers effectively.
  • Develop staff and monitor student educational activities.
  • Represent laboratory management in meetings and committees.
  • Prepare, implement, and control the cost-center budget with the Program Director and Laboratory Administrative Director.
  • Evaluate analyzers, software, and test systems for capital purchases, leases, and reagent-rental agreements.
  • Communicate with administration and leadership.
  • Participate in monthly governing-board and quarterly quality-assurance meetings.
  • Provide rotating weekend supervisor call coverage.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory training.
  • Perform other assigned duties within the job specifications.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree is preferred.
  • Previous supervisor experience is preferred.
  • National certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification for assigned work areas is preferred.
