Requirements
- A Master's degree in psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related mental health field.
- A current, unrestricted Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor license in Virginia.
- At least 5 years of clinical and/or leadership experience in mental health services.
- A strong understanding of mental health and substance abuse treatment standards and regulatory requirements.
- The ability to recognize and respond to signs of mental illness, emotional disturbance, or substance dependency.
Responsibilities
- Assess, evaluate, and coordinate mental health care for incarcerated individuals with on-site mental health clinicians.
- Perform clinical reviews and assess whether mental health and substance abuse care levels and services are medically appropriate within security standards at each site.
- Support Clinical Regional Managers on mental health practices and treatments across facilities.
- Help manage and maintain mental health providers across sites.
- Assist in filling new mental health roles at potential or new sites.
- Support clinical regional management in requests for proposals involving mental health standards and operations.
- Perform quarterly site-to-site reviews with mental health providers to ensure quality and documentation compliance for mental health encounters.
- Discuss and troubleshoot collaboration with local community services boards for temporary detention orders, emergency custody orders, and restorative services.
- Assist Clinical Management with hiring, onboarding, and orienting new hires across sites as needed.
- Educate new hires on temporary detention orders, court orders, and court-ordered psychological evaluations for sanity at the time of offense and competency.
- Fill in across sites as needed when a mental health clinician is absent.
- Analyze mental health data to improve quality and appropriate utilization of services.
- Attend conferences on correctional mental health standards, policy, and procedure, as well as medication-assisted treatment programs.
- Educate mental health clinicians and medical staff on standards and parameters for medication-assisted treatment program clients.
- Evaluate mental health and substance abuse treatment before, during, and after services with medical staff to ensure appropriate care levels and services.
- Perform prior authorization reviews for mental health and substance abuse services to determine medical appropriateness under regulatory guidelines and criteria.
- Engage with medical directors and leadership to improve care quality and efficiency.
- Formulate and present cases in staffing and integrated rounds.
- Perform concurrent reviews of behavioral health inpatient care to determine members' overall health and treatment needs.
- Collaborate with jail security on current standard operating procedures, including suicide watch policy and required cellmate status.
- Maintain active use of Jail Tracker to support communication between security and mental health clinicians.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- Perform other assigned duties and responsibilities.
