Requirements
  • Diploma, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan is required.
  • BLS certification is required.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and effective problem solving and prioritization skills and the ability to process information in a confidential manner.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, doctors and other staff; ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to think, as well as function, as an integral team member with other healthcare professionals.
  • Must possess excellent computer skills with ability to read, interpret and analyze data from various computer systems.
  • Demonstrates competencies specific to the population served when providing direct patient care.
Responsibilities
  • Record vital signs, provide initial patient assessment, obtain concise patient history, and provide clinical information and support to providers.
  • Process and post information to patient charts and provide patient and family with education regarding medications, treatment and care, and patient referrals.
  • Assist in other areas as needed and perform phone triage of patients.
  • Prepare for patient appointments and maintain documentation standards; review charts prior to appointments to ensure requests and documents are available.
  • Prepare patients for examinations including patient assessment, histories, vital signs, medication reconciliation, and routine testing of hearing, vision or other; provide initial assessment of patient’s condition to physician as needed.
  • Triage calls to determine urgency, necessity of appointments or whether phone advice is sufficient.
  • Assist providers with minor and emergency procedures and examinations; follow physician instructions and provide reassurance during examinations.
  • Under provider direction, schedule tests and procedures for patients in other departments and prepare patients with appropriate instructions.
  • Document results from ordered tests/procedures and notify patients; record in medical records appropriately.
  • Perform point of care laboratory tests as directed by the physician and document information in the patient’s medical record.
  • Coordinate admissions, referrals, and prescription requests; provide patient and family with appropriate education regarding their care.
  • Take verbal, telephone and written orders for medications from physicians; administer medications as requested and record data.
  • Maintain and review patient records and charts and document test and assessment results in the medical record.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities and use quality improvement results to initiate changes in nursing practice.
  • Ensure proper communication back to other healthcare team members; attend staff and other meetings and participate in ongoing educational activities; maintain records of competency and ongoing education.
  • Assist in completion of miscellaneous forms (Workers Compensation, Disability, and State of Michigan) as required.
  • Interact with and contribute to professional development of colleagues through knowledge sharing.
  • Stock supplies and maintain examination rooms.
  • Familiar with various insurance and referral policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
