Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • A current special education certification with proper endorsements according to state and federal standards is required.
  • A valid Structured English Immersion endorsement or certification, or the ability to obtain it within six months of employment, is required in Arizona.
  • The incumbent must pass a criminal history background check.
  • The role requires the ability to lift, sit, stand, move throughout the campus, and travel to other campuses as required.
  • The role requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods, read computer screens and printed materials, hear and understand speech, speak clearly, and follow oral and written instructions.
Responsibilities
  • Create a classroom environment that cultivates learning, engages students' interests, and enables them to perform at their best.
  • Use direct instruction techniques to guide students through activities that promote the social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for primary school success.
  • Employ instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs and capabilities of the individuals involved.
  • Assess students' accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Recognize and evaluate students' learning and other disabilities regularly, and seek assistance or referral from district specialists as required.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Explore individual student needs and provide side-by-side support to determine how each student learns best and develop personalized solutions for each student's learning style and abilities.
  • Master and implement the curriculum and guide students toward achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Evaluate each student's learning capabilities and recognize student accomplishments.
  • Encourage students to uphold organizational values and model mature behavior and good character in the classroom, on campus, and throughout their lives.
  • Participate in events outside normal working hours.
  • Build connections with students, parents, and fellow educators while helping others learn and celebrating their success.
  • Perform an active role involving lifting, sitting, standing, moving throughout the campus, and traveling to other campuses as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two or more years of special education teaching experience, with demonstrated proficiency and experience in the subject or specialty area of the position.
