About the Role:
As a Technical Writer Intern, you’ll be documenting our complex, interesting, and well-planned system architecture for our cybersecurity product. To accelerate our teams, you’ll help document our essential CrowdStrike architecture and data models. We’re looking for someone to capture what currently exists and how it got there, as well as keep up with new developments.
This writer will be embedded in the architecture team to produce documentation intended for internal stakeholders, like our system architects, data scientists, and cloud dev teams. They’ll partner with our technical writing team for writing standards and reviews.
What You’ll Do:
Document the principles, structure, and intricacies of our system architecture as it currently exists and how it got there. Include annotations and diagrams that help other people understand what it does, how it does it, and why.
Write what humans need to know about the system, not just what the system does. The key to success in this role is distilling and presenting exactly what your audience needs to know.
Gather information from extensive SME interviews and research in existing docs.
Partner with devs to fully understand their plans, processes, and institutional knowledge, and record it all for posterity.
Organize internal-facing documentation to onboard new developers and to help experienced developers find detailed explanations.
Take initiative to own and drive projects independently, and proactively coordinate reviews.
Work at both a detailed level and a strategic level.
What You’ll Need:
By the beginning of the internship, interns must have completed at least 2 years at a 4-year undergraduate university graduating between December 2024 -August 2025.
Familiarity with and aptitude for a broad range of engineering topics so you can explore, master, and explain complex systems.
Insatiable curiosity and enthusiasm for modern software development and its challenges.
Willingness to ask foundational questions rather than make assumptions.
Experience researching and explaining internal development concepts, processes and decisions.
Exceptional audience analysis, written and verbal communication, and problem solving.
Portfolio of writing samples, including examples of documenting complex systems for expert audiences.
Bonus Points:
Knowledge of and experience with technical audiences, cybersecurity, and startups strongly preferred.
Background in development.
Experience writing for systems without a GUI.
Passion for seizing opportunities for improvement at every turn.
