Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in freight forwarding and handling customs business.
  • Knowledge of customs compliance and regulations.
  • Experience with importation into U.S. commerce.
  • Experience filing entries containing Participating Government Agency information, especially Food and Drug Administration medical-device entries.
  • Experience filing Importer Security Filings accurately and timely.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to quickly assimilate new information.
  • Excellent organization, analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to multitask, prioritize, and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform data entry of customs entries.
  • File Importer Security Filings for all ocean shipments.
  • Assist with product classifications for customs brokerage shipments.
  • Assist with inbound entries and bonded shipments.
  • Support the Import Department with excess shipments.
  • Audit and review assigned brokerage files and payments to customs.
  • Classify commercial invoices using the U.S. Tariff Book and Customs Rulings Online Search System as reference tools.
  • Enter import Automated Manifest System information and Harmonized Tariff Schedule numbers, including transmission to U.S. Customs.
  • Prepare entry documentation, including Forms 7501 and 3461.
  • Perform remote-location filing.
  • Maintain import-operation compliance measures and document compliance.
  • Maintain documentation and procedures in accordance with U.S. Customs standards.
  • Arrange delivery and invoicing of import-account services.
  • File Importer Security Filings 72 hours before a shipment leaves its last origin port.
  • Prepare delivery orders, send them to truckers, and follow up on proof of delivery.
  • Process documents through the company’s Automated Broker Interface system and obtain Customs and other government-agency releases as appropriate.
  • Review and monitor Customs rejections and client requests for information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
