Requirements
  • Working knowledge of epidemiologic principles, investigations, surveillance, study design, descriptive statistics, statistical analysis, and interpretation of statistical data and scientific literature
  • Considerable knowledge of biostatistics including the use of statistical software and statistical programming languages
  • Considerable knowledge of computers, database design, management, and manipulation
  • Considerable knowledge of the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN)
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Master's degree in Epidemiology or closely related health field from an appropriately accredited institution
  • Two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, and conduct investigations into the causes of negative health outcomes including disease and injury
  • Implement interventions to control and prevent negative health outcomes
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data and prepare epidemiologic reports
  • Provide epidemiological data for consultation and assist in the development and coordination of plans to reduce the risk of negative health outcomes including death
  • Assist county health departments in formulating strategies to manage problems, conducting literature reviews, and implementing evidence-based interventions
  • Specialize in areas such as infectious disease, chronic disease, injury, environmental/occupational epidemiology, health care evaluation, cancer, reproductive health, cardiovascular disease, or human genetics
  • Develop policies and procedures for disease control or public health prevention programs
  • Provide training, technical assistance, and consultation regarding epidemiology and disease control
  • Serve as a technical expert in the assigned area
  • Conduct trend analysis and independent statistical and epidemiological analysis
