Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Medicine and completion of residency training.
  • Current licensure as a physician in good standing with the North Carolina Medical Board.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration licensure.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification.
Responsibilities
  • Practice outpatient medicine.
  • Provide medical care for each patient visit, including completing pertinent histories and physical examinations.
  • Document the chief complaint, history of present illness, pertinent review of systems, and physical examination in the electronic health record.
  • Review and update patients’ medical history, family history, social history, medications, and allergies in the electronic health record.
  • Review vital signs and results and reports from prior orders.
  • Place new orders.
  • Perform and document procedures.
  • Administer medications and immunizations.
  • Determine and document assessment and plan.
  • Prescribe medications.
  • Provide patient education, guidance, and counseling.
  • Arrange follow-up plans.
  • Sign electronic health record encounters within established policy and procedure timelines.
  • Respond to related patient questions or needs following an encounter.
  • Adhere to established scheduling templates when providing patient care.
  • Participate in quality metrics directives and departmental quality improvement projects.
  • Attend practitioners’, clinical site, and practice-wide meetings regularly.
  • Read organizational emails and other communication platforms.
  • Complete peer review.
  • Comply with Clinical Quality Measures expectations.
  • Use resources to verify standards of care.
  • Modify workflows as determined by the department to attain quality improvement objectives.
  • Consistently document activities related to quality improvement projects.
  • Participate in the on-call patient care rotation.
  • Remain available to receive phone calls throughout on-call service dates.
  • Respond to on-call contacts within established policy and procedure timelines.
  • Document on-call patient care in the electronic health record.
  • Notify the patient’s primary care physician of on-call patient care.
  • Supervise Advanced Practice Practitioners.
  • Maintain a supervisory agreement with each supervised Advanced Practice Practitioner.
  • Remain available to respond to clinical questions raised by Advanced Practice Practitioners.
  • Perform regular chart reviews of Advanced Practice Practitioners and provide feedback when indicated.
  • Participate in quality improvement meetings with supervisees consistent with licensing board requirements.
  • Communicate scheduling changes with Advanced Practice Practitioners and backup supervising physicians to ensure coverage at all times.
