Requirements
  • Demonstrated competency dealing with all age groups, including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Completion of a four-year physician assistant baccalaureate program and one year of clinical training, or completion of a two-year accredited physician assistant program requiring two years of undergraduate study plus two years of clinical training following completion of the physician assistant program.
  • A Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas and/or national certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Completion of 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and passing a recertification examination every six years for continued employment.
  • Current CPR certification.
Responsibilities
  • Examine patients, take medical histories, record results, and make preliminary diagnoses or determine follow-up procedures.
  • Administer and order diagnostic tests such as X-rays, electrocardiograms, and blood work, and interpret test results.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures such as immunizations, injections, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
  • Exercise professional judgment regarding consultation with supervising physicians about appropriate treatment.
  • Develop and implement patient care plans, instruct and counsel patients, and record progress.
  • Prescribe medications to the extent allowed by state guidelines and clinic regulations.
  • Provide general health education regarding daily living and health maintenance.
  • Assist physicians with emergency treatments and more complex procedures.
  • Conduct clinics and examinations, write prescriptions, and assist in surgical operating rooms.
  • Practice in orthopedic medicine across spine, general orthopedic care, sports medicine, shoulder and knee, upper extremity, elbow/wrist/hand, arthritic and total joint preservation and replacement, ankle/foot and hip, and pain management.
Desired Qualifications
  • Orthopedic experience is preferred.
