Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of bodily injury experience in determining liability, negotiating settlements, reviewing estimates, and using medical terminology.
  • Ability to obtain necessary state licenses and maintain continuing education requirements as needed.
  • Business acumen sufficient to understand how an insurance company operates and how the role affects profitability.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on significant matters and understand a broad set of general issues.

  • Ability to use listening and questioning techniques to gather information from insureds and claimants.
  • Polished professional written and verbal communication skills, including presenting information clearly, concisely, and accurately.
  • Fluent English reading and writing ability.

Responsibilities
  • Adjudicate less complex claims, such as two-car accidents and minor injuries, under technical supervision and within established authority.
  • Provide focused customer service and develop lasting relationships with insureds and brokers.
  • Analyze claim forms, policies, endorsements, client instructions, and other records to review policy coverage.
  • Coordinate litigation plans with defense counsel to provide a cost-effective defense and protect the insured's interests.
  • Complete thorough investigations, interview involved parties, evaluate exposure, and review venue-specific case law.
  • Complete case evaluations and establish appropriate reserves in accordance with the company's reserving philosophy.
  • Handle multi-line litigation claims across personal and commercial lines, including property, liability, and first- and third-party exposures.
  • Make daily decisions on the appropriate course of action for each file while considering exposure and cost factors.
  • Attend depositions, court-ordered mediations, trials, arbitrations, and settlement meetings as required, including overnight travel when necessary.
  • Negotiate timely and effective, cost-conscious resolutions within assigned authority using appropriate negotiation styles.
  • Consider alternative dispute resolutions and use creative resolutions when appropriate.
  • Manage the claim diary and complete tasks timely and accurately to support favorable financial outcomes and resolution.
  • Review legal expenses incurred in litigation defense.
  • Report matters to the Claims Committee when appropriate.
  • Evaluate bodily injury claims, review medical reports, records, and bills, calculate past and future medical expenses and wage loss, value personal injury claims, and assess exposure using permanency ratings under American Medical Association guidelines.
  • Investigate and handle recoveries involving subrogation, salvage, liens, loss transfers, and related claim areas.
  • Handle correspondence relating to litigation files and respond accordingly.
  • Communicate with insureds, claimants, agents, attorneys, vendors, and management regarding claim status.
Desired Qualifications
  • Insurance or litigation designations such as ACLA, AIC, CCLA, CPCU, FCLA, LPCS, PCLA, or SCLA.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
