View

Veterinary Practice Partners helps veterinarians own and run animal hospitals by taking a majority stake (about 70%) and allowing doctor-partners to retain roughly 30% ownership, preserving clinical autonomy while VPP handles the business side. The company provides back-office support across finance, marketing, human resources, recruiting, and technology to standardize operations and systems. It grows through acquisitions and de novo development, expanding its network with private-equity backing and partnerships across many states. Its goal is to enable veterinarians to become practice owners with solid support, expanding high-quality animal hospitals and improving veterinary business efficiency.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • VPP earned three 2026 Newsweek workplace rankings on August 26, 2026.
  • Fox Creek Veterinary Hospital opened a fourth St. Louis location, showing continued de novo expansion.
  • VPP listed 83 open jobs in January 2026, signaling active growth and operational depth.

What critics are saying

  • Mission Pet Health, NVA, and Mars dominate veterinary M&A, compressing VPP's deal pipeline.
  • VPP's model depends on veterinarians wanting equity; weaker partner economics kill future conversions.
  • If associate-to-owner conversions stall, Audax loses the acquisition thesis and VPP becomes a plain consolidator.

What makes Veterinary Practice Partners unique

  • VPP sells true co-ownership, not practice sales, preserving veterinarian clinical autonomy.
  • By August 2026, VPP celebrated its 100th associate-to-owner transition since 2013.
  • Its platform combines finance, recruiting, HR, marketing, and technology across 190-plus practices.

Veterinary Practice Partners earns three 2026 Newsweek workplace recognitions.

Veterinary Practice Partners earns three 2026 Newsweek workplace recognitions. Veterinary Practice Partners (VPP) named to Newsweek's America's Greatest Workplaces in Health Care, America's Greatest Workplaces for Women, and America's Greatest Workplaces by State in California, Florida, and Pennsylvania WALTHAM, Mass.-(BUSINESS WIRE)-Veterinary Practice Partners (VPP), a national Veterinary Partnership Community (VPC), today announced it has earned recognition across three of Newsweek's 2026 workplace rankings: America's Greatest Workplaces in Health Care, America's Greatest Workplaces for Women, and America's Greatest Workplaces by State in California, Florida, and Pennsylvania. These lists recognize organizations that build outstanding workplace cultures for their teams, based on independent employee survey data and public reputation research. VPP partners with over 330 doctor co-owners at more than 200 veterinary hospitals across 35 states. The VPP community has over 700 doctors and more than 3,600 team members. The recognition of these rankings helps reflect VPP's continued investment in building a workplace where veterinary professionals want to stay and grow, including expanded co-ownership pathways, ongoing professional development, and an Employee Assistance Fund that supports team members through unexpected hardship. "This recognition belongs to every team member across our community who shows up for their patients, their clients, and each other every day," said John McDonough, CEO of VPP. "Our mission has always been to keep veterinary medicine in the hands of veterinary professionals and to help our people find fulfillment in one another's success. Being recognized as a leader in the health care industry, as a great workplace for women, and as a top workplace in some of our largest states means a great deal to us. It's a meaningful sign that the culture we've worked hard to build is being felt by our people." Building on that mission, VPP's vision is to set the standard for what veterinary medicine should be while preserving the heart in the work. VPP's approach centers on three pillars: being the partner of choice for practice owners, the employer of choice for veterinary professionals, and the provider of choice for clients and their pets. Rather than folding acquired hospitals into a single corporate identity, VPP preserves the individual culture, legacy, and reputation each practice has built, while providing shared infrastructure, resources, and community across its network. About Veterinary Practice Partners Veterinary Practice Partners (VPP) is a Veterinary Partnership Community built upon preserving true co-ownership. This organization puts veterinary professionals first, providing industry-leading support, strategies and resources, while promoting clinical autonomy and celebrating the distinct identity, culture and legacy of each hospital in its partnership network.
