Requirements
  • High school diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • One of the following Wisconsin credentials: Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate, or Emergency Medical Technician.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • Ability to perform hands-on patient care and work in a safe, alert manner.
  • Ability to meet the stated physical requirements, including standing and walking, lifting and carrying, pushing and pulling, patient movement, keyboard use, and occasional driving.
Responsibilities
  • Receive patient-care assignments from the registered nurse in charge and initiate delegated tasks within demonstrated competence for the patient age group served.
  • Collect and document reassessment data at specified times for the patient population.
  • Document and provide patient-response data to the physician, registered nurse, or licensed practical nurse for analysis and validation, including when a significant change occurs.
  • Demonstrate appropriate lead placement for routine cardiac monitoring and 12-lead electrocardiograms, and perform 12-lead electrocardiograms according to policy and procedure.
  • Assist physicians and nursing staff with medical procedures as appropriate.
  • Stock and maintain supplies and equipment according to patient-care needs and cost-containment requirements.
  • Turn over rooms after each patient use by cleaning carriers, changing sheets, restocking supplies, disposing of trash, returning equipment, and managing instrument trays according to procedure.
  • Assist with delegated clerical duties, including answering telephones, relaying messages, transcribing physician orders, and preparing and organizing patient medical records.
  • Prepare patients for discharge or completion of the visit and accompany them upon dismissal as indicated.
  • Transport patients to a receiving department or facility when indicated.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
