Requirements
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • The candidate must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing as a registered nurse.
  • Current appropriate state licensure and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification are required.
  • Proficiency in using computers and related software such as Microsoft Office is required.
  • Proficiency in intravenous insertion is required.
  • Proficiency in cardiac rhythm recognition is required.
  • Experience with medical database software is required.
  • The candidate must successfully complete Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support course certifications.
  • The candidate must be able to perform frequent prolonged standing, bending, heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation, including occasionally moving patients and equipment up to 200 pounds with assistance.
  • The candidate may be exposed to infectious or contagious diseases and materials, radiation, and protective-gear requirements in procedure rooms.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care before, during, and after procedures under the direction of facility leadership or a charge registered nurse.
  • Support organizational quality standards, regulatory and accrediting-body requirements, and Continuous Quality Improvement activities.
  • Implement organization quality goals and facility-specific action plans.
  • Address adverse events and action thresholds in collaboration with facility management.
  • Maintain the integrity of medical, administrative, and operational records.
  • Obtain medical history, discuss procedures, answer questions, and perform nursing assessments on procedure days.
  • Educate patients and families about post-procedure vascular-access care.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures, including patients receiving moderate sedation and contrast media injections.
  • Complete accurate patient documentation from admission through discharge.
  • Confirm written orders, consents, and laboratory work; prepare requisitions; deliver specimens or requisitions to laboratories; and report and forward results to physicians.
  • Initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency measures when needed.
  • Administer medications and intravenous moderate sedation according to physician orders and applicable regulations.
  • Assist physicians as a scrub technologist during procedures while maintaining sterile technique.
  • Transport patients as needed to support workflow.
  • Perform point-of-care laboratory testing according to physician orders and applicable regulations.
  • Perform intravenous insertion according to physician orders.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with physicians as needed.
  • Attend and participate in Continuous Quality Improvement meetings and report on assigned topics.
  • Assist with verifying required instruments and equipment.
  • Assist physicians with state-required adverse-event reports and internal reporting.
  • Operate patient monitors, defibrillators, medical recording devices, sterilizers, computers, and other facility equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect equipment and operating systems, report malfunctions and maintenance needs, and monitor facility conditions.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary vascular-access facility.
  • Address blood spills according to bloodborne-pathogen control policies.
  • Support efficient use of medications, laboratory resources, inventory, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with developing and revising facility policies and procedures.
  • Maintain medication supplies, control inventory, check for expired medications, and document controlled substances.
  • Complete medication usage logs and drug-disposal records in accordance with law.
  • Maintain facility supply inventory, including ordering and restocking supplies.
  • Examine and stock emergency equipment and supplies, including the crash cart.
  • Complete medical records before patient discharge and perform regular chart audits.
  • Participate in regulatory and accreditation surveys and deficiency action plans.
  • Complete state-required records for implanted devices.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and orientation.
  • Comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act policies and standards.
  • Assist with projects assigned by the direct supervisor and perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • An Associate's Degree is desirable.
  • A Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred.
  • Four to six years of related experience is preferred.
  • Experience in an office-based surgical center, ambulatory surgical center, vascular access setting, cardiac catheterization laboratory, or a combination of ambulatory surgery, surgical, interventional radiology, intensive care, coronary care, or emergency department settings is preferred.
