Requirements
  • A Master of Science in Nursing is required, contingent on State Board of Nursing regulations.
  • At least 2 years of professional work experience are required.
  • The candidate must be a demonstrated subject matter expert in the assigned content or practice areas.
  • An active and unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state where the lab is located is required.
  • The candidate must be able to work two shifts per month during Monday-Friday operating hours from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • The candidate must work on-site in the WGU Clinical Learning & Simulation Center in Houston, Texas.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a professional role model for students in dress, communication, deportment, problem solving, care delivery, and patient advocacy to facilitate students’ socialization into the profession.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and participate in implementing the philosophy and goals of the nursing program.
  • Communicate constructive feedback to students as new learners.
  • Use evidence-based tools and measures to evaluate students’ clinical learning.
  • Maintain communication with the Supervisor, Lab Faculty, and make appropriate student referrals for remediation or other needs in post-lab reports.
  • Teach through demonstration, practice, and assistance.
  • Facilitate student advancement through basic nursing skills and simple or complex patient-care situations using high-fidelity simulation.
  • Facilitate simulated scenarios according to evidence-based standards and guidelines.
  • Assist students with clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem solving using reflection, probing, active listening, and other clinical teaching strategies.
  • Assist students in applying the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Support students during learning experiences rather than performing tasks for them.
  • Assist students in identifying individual learning needs.
  • Promote, provide, and maintain a safe learning experience.
  • Incorporate the student and self as integral members of the nursing team when teaching simulated patient care.
  • Work with the Supervisor, Lab Faculty, to integrate lab operations, maximize utilization, improve expenditure efficiency, and moderate student and program costs.
  • Support quality-improvement measurements related to faculty and student satisfaction.
  • Provide orientation and substantial first-cohort support to new Learning Lab Instructors and Simulation Technicians during onboarding to the WGU model and lab-instruction standards.
  • Assist in planning staff schedules.
  • Assist in maintaining supply inventory.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong experience with distance education and distance-learning students is preferred.
  • Experience in simulation-based education is preferred.
  • Experience with integrated technology systems and tools.
