Requirements
  • Culinary knowledge and experience.
  • Several years of experience as a professional chef, progressing through various kitchen roles.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a culinary setting.
  • Post-secondary education in culinary management or a related field.
  • A valid Food Safety or Food Handler's Certification.
  • Understanding of food safety regulations, sanitation practices, and proper ingredient handling.
  • Smart Serve Certification or a provincial equivalent.
  • Strong computer skills for inventory management, menu planning software, and communication.
  • Familiarity with budgeting, cost control, inventory management, and optimizing food costs.
  • A complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Background Check, or willingness to obtain one.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, coaching, time management, multitasking, attention to detail, quality and taste, communication, customer or resident focus, analytical problem-solving, interpersonal relationship-building, composure under pressure, and awareness of current culinary trends.
Responsibilities
  • Recruit, train, and oversee a team of culinary and service professionals.
  • Manage the culinary and dining department while maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, National Director, Regional Culinary Managers, and residents to translate culinary visions into actionable plans.
  • Lead the culinary team, oversee financials, and prioritize resident satisfaction.
  • Create diverse menus using premium ingredients and ensure excellent service and presentation.
  • Provide hands-on guidance, assure compliance, cultivate relationships, and drive culinary innovation.
  • Deliver an elevated, best-in-class dining experience for residents.
Desired Qualifications
  • Red Seal Certification is an asset.
  • Experience working in retirement living is considered an asset.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a culinary setting, preferably in a unionized environment.
