Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from an accredited college may be considered in lieu of a degree or a satisfactory equivalent
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible transportation experience
  • Two (2) years of which must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License
Responsibilities
  • Conduct rail incident and accident investigations that meet the criteria of the PTSB, FTA, and NTSB
  • Investigate all New York City Transit (NYCT) Department of Subways (DOS) collisions, derailments, near-miss incidents, and serious employee injuries or fatalities, side door drags, as well as any high-profile incidents
  • Conduct investigations and prepare comprehensive incident and accident reports covering all aspects of DOS activities
  • Identify causal and contributing factors and recommend corrective actions to prevent future incidents or accidents
  • Make timely notifications to the PTSB, FTA, and NTSB on criteria-based incidents and accidents on a 24/7, 365-day-per-year basis
  • Provide technical advice on DOS-related matters and advise Senior Management on safety-related practices
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in safety management or a related field
  • Knowledge of NYCT rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of investigative skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Knowledge of safety practices and Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations
  • Understanding of NYC Transit Equipment, technical standards, operations, and organization is required
  • Knowledge and understanding of accident/incident investigation technique policies and procedures
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities
