The Cannata Report
Mar 25th, 2026
FRANKLY SPEAKING: Sharp Electronics Japan appoints new president and CEO.

FRANKLY SPEAKING: Sharp Electronics Japan appoints new president and CEO. Pictured above in 2020 (from left): Socially distanced during COVID are Mike Marusic, Frank Cannata, and Ted Kuwamura. The Cannata Report 33 learned last week from Sharp Electronics in New Jersey that a new president has been appointed in Japan. The Cannata Report 33 were informed it was Ted Kawamura, an old friend. To get the whole story, I reached out to Hiro Ueda to see if he could come up with some information about this important announcement. He happened to be in Japan at the time. As always, Hiro did not disappoint The Cannata Report 33. The Cannata Report 33 thank him profusely for acting as one of its staff in Japan to bring you this important news. The details are as such: Sharp announced on March 19 that Executive Vice President Tetsuji Kawamura (64) will be promoted to president, representative executive officer, and CEO effective April 1. Current President Masahiro Okitsu (68) will become vice chairman without representative authority. Under Kawamura, who has been leading new business development, the company aims to accelerate the creation of new growth pillars to replace its once-core LCD TV business. Kawamura has held leadership roles at Sharp's European headquarters and U.S. sales operations. After overseeing smart office and MFP-related businesses, he currently leads new business development. Sharp fell into net losses for two consecutive fiscal years ending March 2023 and March 2024 due to the slump in its liquid crystal display (LCD) panel business. Former President Po-Hsun Wu, from parent company Hon Hai Precision Industry (Foxconn), effectively resigned to take responsibility, and Okitsu assumed the presidency in June 2024. The company has been advancing structural reforms, including ending production of TV LCD panels at its Sakai plant (Osaka Prefecture) in August 2024. As a result, Sharp returned to profitability in the fiscal year ending March 2025. For the fiscal year ending March 2026, the company expects increased profits, partly driven by last-minute demand for PCs ahead of the end of support for Microsoft's Windows 10. What technology will replace Sharp's LCD business? While overall performance has recovered, the LCD panel business continues to post losses. The planned sale of the second plant at the Kameyama factory (Mie Prefecture) to parent company Hon Hai fell through due to Hon Hai's change of plans. Hon Hai intends to repurpose the facility as a server production site. Had the sale gone through, Sharp could have secured stable income through both the sale proceeds and contract manufacturing from Hon Hai. The company is still seeking a buyer for the plant. Sharp has yet to establish a clear successor to LCDs as its main growth driver. One example is its EV electronic vehicle under development, which features a projector for watching movies and a table for reading, allowing the vehicle to function as "another room" when parked at home. However, it remains uncertain whether this business can grow into a company-wide growth engine comparable to its former LCD business. Kawamura's key challenge will be to fully stem losses in the LCD panel business while formulating and executing a new growth strategy for the company's future. Sharp Electronics in the United States is ecstatic as he was president here and led Sharp through the difficult COVID period and managed to grow the business: a great credit to him and the B2B team led by Mike Marusic, president and CEO of Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America. It has been my good fortune to work with some outstanding Japanese executives for more than 40 years. Haruo Murase and Fujio Mitarai from Canon are two great examples who accomplished some amazing things in the United States; they continued when they returned to Japan. Ted is certainly in their class. Having Kawamura in the top position of Sharp Electronics is good news for Sharp's dealers, as he not only understands their business but also has a great relationship with many of them. The Cannata Report 33 look forward to seeing what products and services he will bring for U.S. distribution. With the Japanese fiscal year end coming in April, consider subscribing to the Domo Report.

Pulse Technology helps RailCats steelyard Stadium with new marquis sign.

Pulse Technology helps RailCats steelyard Stadium with new marquis sign. March 15, 2026 Pulse Technology, a technology company serving the IT, Managed Print Services, Audio Visual and other needs of businesses throughout the Midwest and beyond, recently completed the design and installation of a new, 17'x20' two-sided, billboard display for the semi-professional baseball team South Shore RailCats. The SteelYard Stadium, where the RailCats play home games, is owned by the City of Gary, IN. Several years after installing a sign 70' in the air, aimed at providing advertising messages to motorists on the I90 interstate, the city and the team experienced problems with their billboard. The original provider was unable to provide replacement parts. The result is that the sign was inoperative and the team - and the city - needed a solution. The RailCats marquis sign is used to provide high-visibility messaging aimed at motorists traveling along the I90 interstate, and is a source of ongoing revenue for the team. The RailCats were feeling the pressure of downtime. Without a functioning sign, advertisers who contracted for specific times to have their messages displayed were not getting their messages out. The RailCats organization pressured the city to find a solution and find one quickly. Without the ability to showcase display advertising, there was less incoming revenue - not to mention dissatisfied advertisers. The first sign had only been in use for a few years when the breakdown occurred, and that is when Pulse Technology got the "at bat" to provide a solution. Paul Miceli, Director of Audio Visual at Pulse Technology, said, "The existing sign from their previous provider did not provide a good ROI for the city. With no parts available, leading to extensive downtime, they needed a solution that would help them get a sign back up and once again generate revenue through advertisements. It was important for them to get it right." Because Pulse partners with a number of leading sign manufacturers, including Watchfire and Sharp, Pulse was able to provide a state-of-the-art sign to meet the specifications needed, while working to determine the best resolution for the display's images (in this case, 16mm for optimal view from the nearby interstate). A deciding factor in Pulse's selection as provider for the city is that Pulse offered a ten-year service contract to cover parts and labor for the sign. "Other sign companies don't offer this level of commitment," Miceli said. "It is important for any municipality or business considering signage to read the fine print in the agreements with providers, and to select someone with the experience to guide them in the right direction." He added, "And it is important to leverage your provider's relationship with sign manufacturers to be certain that you are getting the right equipment that will do the job." He added, "An ongoing maintenance program helps identify potential problems before they become problems and avoids downtime. In the same way that we provide ongoing monitoring of companies' IT systems we believe in the proactive approach." "We have had considerable experience in designing both indoor and outdoor signage," Miceli said. "We are pleased to have provided the City of Gary and the RailCats a cost-effective, dynamic display. We look forward to seeing the RailCats have a great season, and we're happy to have helped them get their advertising and messages back on track." This oven uses a Golden Heater to cook your chicken up to 3x faster

This oven uses a Golden Heater to cook your chicken up to 3x faster. By Gian Estrada February 19, 2026 2 Mins Read Sharp has unveiled its Celerity High-Speed Oven at KBIS 2026 and introduced a new "Golden Heater" system that aims to reduce cooking times significantly while maintaining the texture and browning expected from a conventional oven. The 30-inch wall oven combines the Golden Heater with True European Convection and inverter-controlled microwave power, creating a hybrid cooking approach that blends radiant heat, circulating air and microwave energy in one cavity. Sharp states that the system can cook a whole chicken up to three times faster than a conventional oven, reflecting a broader industry push toward time-saving appliances that merge multiple cooking technologies. Hybrid ovens have gained traction as households prioritise speed and versatility over single-function appliances, especially in kitchens where space constraints limit the number of dedicated cooking devices. Sharp integrates inverter-controlled microwave technology to regulate power delivery more precisely than traditional on-off cycling, a method that can help maintain moisture levels while still achieving surface browning. Broader kitchen lineup expansion. Sharp also expanded its Microwave Drawer Oven range with new Elegant White and Matte Black finishes, aligning the sliding-drawer design with current kitchen colour trends and built-in aesthetics. The Microwave Drawer configuration reduces overhead reaching by installing below the counter and supports touchless operation through Easy Wave Open, reflecting growing demand for accessibility-focused kitchen layouts. Sharp introduced additional countertop microwave models, counter-depth refrigerators, ranges and dishwashers as part of its 2026 suite, signalling a wider refresh across its premium appliance portfolio. The company lists dishwasher noise levels of 44-49 dBA for new models, placing them within the quiet-operation range typical of mid- to high-end kitchen installations. Sharp showcased the new appliances at booth S25091 during KBIS 2026 in Florida, although the company has not yet detailed pricing or retail availability timelines. Further information on release schedules and regional distribution is expected following the show as Sharp rolls out its 2026 kitchen lineup across US retailers. Why trust our journalism?
