Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or a closely related field; or an associate's degree in one of those fields and two years of related experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook at an intermediate level.
  • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug test.
  • Ability to complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
  • Ability to communicate and present information effectively to students, management and line staff, corporate and Department of Labor personnel, and public groups.
  • Ability to develop rapport and positive working relationships with all departments.
  • Ability to complete departmental work accurately and on time.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Ability to adhere to established company safety policies and work safely, using required personal protective equipment as applicable.
  • Compliance with company standard operating procedures and personnel policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Contact Advanced Training students before arrival at the Gulfport Job Corps Center to provide information regarding the program, requirements, and expectations.
  • Ensure each Advanced Training student virtually tours the center and the Advanced Training residential benefits.
  • Coordinate each student's transportation to and from the work site and instruct and support students in coordinating with center transportation for shift changes.
  • Provide classroom instruction in comprehensive and advanced financial literacy.
  • Assist Advanced Training students in establishing savings accounts with automatic drafts for savings.
  • Create a budget plan with each student for transitioning out of the program and into initial housing.
  • Provide instruction on effectively searching for and securing transportation, including purchasing a car, registration, and insurance.
  • Provide instruction on securing housing and basic needs, including furniture.
  • Provide instruction on locating resources for basic medical needs.
  • Establish community partnerships that support students transitioning into housing.
  • Ensure each student transitioning from the Advanced Training program has secured reliable transportation.
  • Serve as the liaison with Huntington-Ingalls for communications regarding individual students.
  • Maintain communication and accountability for Advanced Training students and their schedules.
  • Coordinate cafeteria hot-meal and sack-lunch schedules, ensuring second- and third-shift students have available meal options in the residential lounge.
  • Serve as a job coach to assist students with work challenges.
  • Make independent decisions regarding student placement, development, and wellbeing.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records.
  • Cultivate a climate at the Center and at Outreach/Admissions and Career Transition Services functions that is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect.
  • Promote student attainment of career success standards by modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring skill acquisition, and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
