ROLE OVERVIEW
We are seeking a manager for our App Ecosystem team, which is the team that is tasked with enabling a rich ecosystem of integrations on top of Benchling. The potential of these integrations is extraordinary. In a couple years, any customer, including the majority of small ones who don’t have engineering teams, will be able to install apps to hook Benchling up to their lab instruments, run more specialized analyses, and connect to other common software platforms they have.
This framework is still quite new, with only a handful of apps built on top of it. Improving it will involve working closely with developers and scientists to understand what apps can have the most impact for Benchling, and what tools will make it easiest to build them. As the manager, you will work with the product and engineering teams to build and complete the long-term vision for the team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Recruit, develop, and lead a team of outstanding engineers on the App Ecosystem team
- Partner closely with product and other engineering teams to define roadmap and long-term strategy for the Benchling App Framework
- Unlock key capabilities that support analytical teams with instrument integration & scientific analytics
- Help close enterprise readiness gaps by providing some of the critical functionality requested by enterprise customers and prospects
- Make Benchling an excellent place to work by actively supporting career development, growth, and mentoring of individuals, and by encouraging a fun and inclusive team where everyone feels accepted
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of experience as an engineering manager
- 5+ years of experience building enterprise software as a software engineer
- Experience building, scaling, and operating platform services in production
- Experience building out APIs and SDKs, and supporting an ecosystem of 3rd party developers
- Experience working closely with multi-functional partners in product, design, and engineering
- A track record in guiding your team to make technical and roadmap decisions, drawing clean boundaries between teams and architecture layers
- A strong understanding of multi-tenant cloud architecture
- Grown high-trajectory, early-to-mid-career engineers into leaders with company-wide impact
- Willing to work onsite in our SF office 3 days a week!
SALARY RANGE
Benchling takes a market-based approach to pay. The candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, interview performance, and work location. For this role the base salary range is $205,190 to $277,610.
