POSITION DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Tests, repairs, calibrates, and installs residential and commercial water meters and related equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
Position Specific Summary:
The Water Meter Repairer position at the City of Tucson’s Water Department is responsible for testing, repairing, calibrating, and installing residential and commercial water meters and related equipment and serves as a point of contact for internal and external customers addressing water meter and service issues.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Water Services Supervisor. This position does notsupervise.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Drives to various sites to investigate reports of water meter malfunctions and failures. Transports meters back to the shop for further inspection as needed. Performs in-shop meter tests to benchmark functionality. Takes corrective actions to restore meter accuracy through repair or calibration.
Inspects contractor installed meters for new large installations to ensure compliance with the American Water Works Association (AWWA) specifications.
Utilizes the customer information systems to open and close work orders, updates account information. Notifies customers before conducting meter testing in the field or in-house bench tests.
Keeps track of the equipment used in meter repair operations for overall inventory monitoring. Maintains the interior and exterior of the meter shop to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards.
Engages with City departments to investigate and resolve customer concerns about services and consumption. Recommends strategies to customers for minimizing water consumption.
Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.
Working Conditions
This position requires work in various climate and working conditions and includes indoor and outdoor work with heavy exposure to extreme physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazardous environment.
This position is a primary driver and will be expected to operate a city vehicle. Must have open availability.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Work Experience:
One (1) year of directly related experience
License:
Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D Driver License - Arizona Department of Transportation - Motor Vehicle Division
Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
ADDITIONAL MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Directly related experience is defined as-Meter Reading, Meter Repair or Installation
License/Certifications:
A valid and unrestricted driver’s license with two (2) years of licensed driving is required - Various

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidates will possess the following:
1. One year of meter maintenance experience. Meter maintenance is defined as: reading meters, testing meters for stuck, replacing and installing meters, repairing leaks at meter (couplings, etc.), and high bill investigations.
2. ADEQ Grade 1 Water Distribution System Operator Certification.
3. Backflow Certified Tester Certification (required within 6 months of hire).
4. Experience with the use of utility billing systems, mapping, and asset management systems.
5. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Access).
6. Experience with the operation and maintenance of equipment.

Full Hourly Range: $19.97 - 34.44 USD
