Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in Engineering, Project Management or Architecture is preferred. Other relevant programs may be considered
  • 10+ years of building facility related project management experience, with 5+ years leading a project management team
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills, relationship building and conflict management skills
  • Ability to work autonomously with little supervision
  • Demonstrated capability to work effectively and professionally in a dynamic environment while managing multiple demands and priorities
  • Experience effectively leading teams and to get work done through others
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills, coupled with the ability to effectively communicate and guide a team through complex issues
  • Expertise in risk management and conflict resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with external parties (i.e., consultants, customers, government agencies)
  • Ability to use project management tools including MS Project, SharePoint, etc.
  • Complete understanding of the application of PMI methodology
  • Thorough knowledge of standard contracts and purchasing policies
  • Thorough understanding of project cost estimating, cost forecasting and scheduling processes
  • Knowledgeable in HSE regulations and practices
  • Ability to travel up to ~30% of the time
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license
Responsibilities
  • Monitor financial performance of projects (forecasting, accruals, variance analysis) and implement corrective actions to meet financial targets
  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory documentation and reports related to capital projects, and ensure projects maximize cost recovery under applicable regulations
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including engineering, operations, contractors, and accountants, to ensure alignment and support for project objectives
  • Evaluate cost impacts due to scope changes and change order requests and dispute resolution
  • Monitor project costs with respect to expenditure approvals (CEAR) and escalate the revisions in advance
  • Ensure all projects are delivered on time within the stipulated scope and budget
  • Ensure that all Projects impacting Regulated stakeholders, are done in accordance with Alberta Utility Commission (AUC) framework
  • Ensure all project documentation is done in a transparent, complete, and justifiable manner to anticipate future regulatory filings. Assist stakeholders in regulatory filings as needed
  • Identify, assess, and create any structures, processes, and procedures necessary to effectively manage any regulatory projects in the Facilities teams
  • Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope definition, scheduling, resource planning, and risk management strategies for large-scale facility projects
  • Lead and oversee a portfolio the successful execution of facilities projects, ensuring each project’s scope, schedule, and budget align with organizational objectives and standards
  • Ensure that Projects are documented and completed in adherence to existing ATCO PMO guidelines, stage gate processes and templates
  • Prioritize and balance resources across multiple projects, managing project managers or project teams to deliver on commitments and key milestones
  • Aid in the investigation of any technology that would help enable your team to effectively plan, execute and monitor projects
  • Proactively identify and address project issues and conflicts, using problem solving skills to find efficient and effective solutions. Provide timely and clear communication and documentation on project status, risks, and issues to senior leadership and stakeholders
  • Monitor project execution and progress through regular reviews and site visits, resolving issues and removing roadblocks to keep projects on track
  • Work with Supply Chain to coordinate RFPs to award contractors with work (per policy)
  • Monitor vendor performance on Capital Projects and provide constructive feedback when performance does not meet ATCO’s quality standards
  • Record and share all Lessons learned items from the project to team members during the close out phase
  • Ensure that all Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) aspects of assigned projects, including the HSE management plans, are understood, mitigated and met
  • Lead a team of 3-4 internal project managers along with a team of 3rd party project and construction contractors
  • Inspire and motivate project team members to achieve project goals, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities appropriately, using the strengths of team members to maximize efficiency and productivity
  • Provide regular feedback and performance evaluations to team members, recognizing achievements and addressing areas for improvement
  • Adapt leadership style and approaches based on the needs of the project and the dynamics of the project team
  • Facilitate clear and consistent communication with project stakeholders, including team members, to ensure alignment with project goals and expectations
  • Motivate your team to foster a 'HSE First' attitude in all aspects of the Project

  • Facility Management Professional (FMP) designation is an asset
  • AUC experience is an asset
