Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.
  • Data engineering experience with SQL and NoSQL, Snowflake, ETL/ELT tools, continuous integration and continuous delivery, big data, cloud technologies including AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure, Python, Spark, data mesh, data lake, or data fabric.
  • Mastery-level data engineering and architecture skills, including data architecture patterns, data warehouses, data integration, data lakes, data domains, data products, business intelligence, and cloud technology capabilities.
  • Expertise with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure, and containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.

  • Experience with vector databases, graph databases, NoSQL, and document databases, including design, implementation, and optimization, such as Amazon OpenSearch, Google Vertex AI, Neo4j, Spanner Graph, Amazon Neptune, MongoDB, and DynamoDB.
  • Mastery of data governance practices, including data quality, lineage, and data catalog capture on a large-scale data platform.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to various stakeholders.
  • Expertise in mentoring and developing junior artificial intelligence or data engineers.
  • Familiarity with evolving industry design patterns for artificial intelligence.
  • Ability to translate complex technical topics into business solutions and strategies and to turn business requirements into technical solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Lead data and artificial intelligence engineering for a large and complex data ecosystem using data domains, data products, cloud, and modern technology stacks.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable and robust real-time data streaming pipelines using technologies such as Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, and Spark Streaming.
  • Implement data and artificial intelligence pipelines that combine structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data to support artificial intelligence and agentic solutions, including preprocessing with extraction, chunking, embedding, and grounding strategies.
  • Develop data and artificial-intelligence-driven systems to improve data capabilities and ensure compliance with industry best practices.
  • Develop data domains and data products for reporting, data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and analytics consumption.
  • Implement efficient Retrieval-Augmented Generation architectures and integrate them with enterprise data infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate solutions into operational processes and systems supporting various functions.
  • Stay current with generative artificial intelligence advancements; design prototypes and conduct experiments; and recommend innovative tools and technologies that enhance data capabilities and business strategy.
  • Model domain entities, relationships, and business logic in knowledge graphs such as Neo4j, Amazon Neptune, and Resource Description Framework; integrate data from multiple sources while ensuring canonical representation and semantic consistency.
  • Develop and validate synthetic data to simulate rare events and edge cases for robust agent evaluation, and integrate synthetic data workflows with automated testing frameworks.
  • Champion artificial-intelligence-driven data engineering productivity improvements, including automated data-pipeline generation, advanced DevOps practices, artificial-intelligence-augmented self-healing data pipelines, and automated data quality frameworks.
  • Design and implement a scalable semantic layer with dynamic query translation to deliver real-time insights for conversational analytics.
  • Integrate semantic layers with artificial intelligence and large-language-model platforms to provide low-latency, secure, context-rich data access optimized for high concurrency and enterprise governance.
  • Ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of data pipelines and systems through monitoring, alerting, and incident management.
  • Implement reliability engineering practices including redundancy, fault tolerance, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless deployment, operation, and maintenance of data systems.
  • Mentor junior team members and participate in communities of practice to deliver high-quality data and artificial intelligence solutions while promoting best practices, standards, and reusable patterns.
  • Develop graph database solutions for complex data relationships and optimize Cypher and SPARQL queries for reasoning, relationship discovery, and contextual enrichment for artificial intelligence agents.
  • Apply generative artificial intelligence solutions to insurance-specific data use cases and challenges.
  • Partner with architects and stakeholders to influence and implement the vision of artificial intelligence and data pipelines while safeguarding environmental integrity and scalability.

The Hartford appoints former AssuredPartners CEO Randy Larsen to board

The Hartford has appointed Randy Larsen to its board of directors, effective 1 September. He will serve on the Finance, Investment and Risk Management Committee and the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. Larsen spent 13 years with AssuredPartners, a large insurance brokerage firm, serving as chief executive officer from 2023 until Gallagher acquired the company in 2025. During his tenure, he oversaw significant business growth through organic initiatives and acquisitions whilst leading operational transformation efforts. Prior to AssuredPartners, Larsen spent 14 years with insurance brokerage Schifman Remley & Associates, which AssuredPartners acquired in 2012. He earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Nebraska Wesleyan University.

Hartford beats revenue estimates by 40% but shares drop 2.6% on disappointing earnings

Hartford reported Q1 revenues of $7.23 billion, up 6.1% year on year, exceeding analyst expectations by 40%. Despite the top-line beat, the multi-line insurance company missed analysts' book value per share and earnings per share estimates. The Hartford, recognisable by its stag logo dating to 1810, provides property and casualty insurance, group benefits and investment products across the United States. The company delivered the largest analyst estimate beat among multi-line insurance stocks tracked this quarter. However, investors appeared dissatisfied with the results. Hartford's stock has declined 2.6% since reporting and currently trades at $132.15. The multi-line insurance sector overall saw revenues beat consensus estimates by 8.6%, though share prices have declined an average of 2.8% following earnings.

The Hartford and UConn partner on worker safety and energy innovation research

The Hartford and the University of Connecticut have launched a collaboration focused on business resiliency, worker safety and energy innovation. The partnership includes two key initiatives: The Hartford Laborer Safety Fund and The Hartford Sustainability Research Fellowship. The Hartford will invest in UConn's Korey Stringer Institute to research how extreme heat affects workers across industries, examining both short- and long-term impacts on health and productivity. Hartford Insurance targets cluster around $150 amid underwriting strength and P&C cycle concerns

Hartford Insurance Group has drawn price targets from several research firms clustering around US$150, aligning with a model fair value estimate of US$150.85. Goldman Sachs, Keefe Bruyette, Wells Fargo, Cantor Fitzgerald, Citi, Morgan Stanley and UBS have raised targets to the US$150-160 range, citing confidence in Hartford's underwriting and pricing execution. However, concerns remain about softening property and casualty market conditions. Goldman Sachs and BofA flag increased capital supply and competition pressuring growth, whilst BofA notes loss costs may be rising faster than prices in some lines. Hartford Insurance reports Q4 core earnings of $1.1B, plans to boost quarterly buybacks to $450M

The Hartford Insurance Group reported fourth-quarter core earnings of $1.1 billion ($4.06 per share) and a full-year core earnings return on equity of 19.4%. Business insurance written premium grew 8%, whilst personal insurance showed improved combined ratios and employee benefits maintained solid margins. Net investment income rose 17% to $832 million in the fourth quarter. The company repurchased approximately $400 million of stock and plans to increase quarterly buybacks to $450 million. It also boosted catastrophe protection coverage to $1.9 billion and expects roughly $2.9 billion in net dividends from operating companies in 2026. Management is pursuing an "AI-first" strategy across claims, underwriting and operations. The company is rolling out its Prevail platform across agency and direct channels, with 10 states currently live and approximately 30 launches planned by early 2027.
