Requirements
  • A high school diploma with 2-3 years of education or work-related experience in Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health, or a related field is required.
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills are required.
  • Knowledge of cultural flexibility, competency in working with multicultural participants, and experience working with a wide range of ages and group sizes are required.
  • A valid National Sex Offender Registry Clearance is required.
  • A TB test is required.
  • A health physical meeting Department of Human Services compliance requirements for licensed School Age Centers is required.
  • Upon hire, completion of 10 hours of Health and Safety Training is required.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to obtain insurance clearances as determined by The Salvation Army's insurance company are required.
  • Proof of completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of Pennsylvania Act 153 of 2014 must be provided before hire.
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check, and FBI Criminal Record Check are required under Pennsylvania Act 153 child protection clearance requirements.
  • An understanding of and appreciation for The Salvation Army's mission is required.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and facilitate nutritional and dietary instruction that actively engages program participants in making healthful dietary decisions.
  • Implement lesson plans that provide program participants with resources promoting a healthy lifestyle.
  • Provide participants with a safe and enjoyable environment in which to learn, prepare meals, and have fun.
  • Model honest, positive behaviors and practices.
  • Instruct youth in pre-kindergarten through sixth grade using a prepared curriculum based on United States Department of Agriculture guidelines.
  • Implement new and fresh recipes for participants.
