Requirements
  • A PhD, or U.S. or foreign equivalent, in Biology or a related field is required; ABD candidates nearing completion of the PhD may also be considered with an initial appointment at the rank of instructor.
  • Demonstrated research expertise in Genetics, Ecology, and Evolution.
  • Potential to teach undergraduate biology courses at introductory and upper-division levels.
  • Commitment to using inclusive classroom practices that support students from varied backgrounds and interests.
  • Potential to establish a vibrant, high-quality research program competitive for external funding.
  • Commitment to prominently involving undergraduates of all experience levels and varied backgrounds in research.
  • Commitment to advising undergraduate biology majors and providing service to the department, College of Arts and Sciences, and/or university.

Responsibilities
  • Teach six four-credit courses per year, including introductory and upper-division biology courses, with two courses reallocated for expected mentorship of undergraduate research collaborators.
  • Establish a high-quality research program with potential for external funding and involve undergraduate collaborators in the research.
  • Advise undergraduate biology majors.
  • Provide service to the Biology Department, College of Arts and Sciences, and/or university.
  • Submit a curriculum vitae, teaching philosophy statement, research goals statement, job-specific cover letter, and professional references as part of the application process.
Desired Qualifications
  • Candidates who integrate genetics and ecology, such as through population genetics, conservation genetics, or molecular ecology, are particularly encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to teach BIOL 207 Genetics, Ecology, and Evolution; BIOL 209 Biology of Sustainability; a 300-level course in the candidate’s area of expertise; and a 400-level senior capstone course integrating the candidate’s research.
