Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology, or a related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • Coursework must include completion of the Board of Certification curriculum requirements.
  • Some collegiate work, either as an intern or work experience as an athletic trainer, is required.
  • Must currently be NATABOC certified and in good standing with NATABOC.
  • Must adhere to the NATA Professional Standards and Code of Ethics.
  • A valid driver's license is required to drive College-owned vehicles, and the employee must be insurable under the College's authorized driver policy.
  • Knowledge of athletics, athletic training, strength and conditioning, and related fields is required.
  • Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and professional software such as ATS or injury database tracking software is required.
  • Thorough understanding of HIPAA, FERPA, and other confidentiality statutes is required.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, respond promptly, and work independently and collaboratively is required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed is required.
  • Must be able to work at least 40 hours per week, up to 7 days per week, on a variable schedule including required holiday, weekend, and evening hours.
  • Must be physically able to perform heavy work up to 50 pounds and demonstrate rehabilitation exercises as needed.
  • Employment is contingent on providing documents verifying U.S. citizenship or legal permission to work in the United States.
  • A satisfactory consumer background check is required.
Responsibilities
  • Determine student-athletes' ability to practice or compete in collaboration with qualified medical practitioners and/or the team physician.
  • Mentor athletic training students and student aides.
  • Consult with coaches about weight training, practice plans, athlete injuries, and return to practice or play.
  • Cover practices, home and away competitions, and other assigned events.
  • Coordinate preventive and rehabilitative treatments for assigned sports and athletes under the supervision of the Associate Athletic Director and team physicians.
  • Assist with student-athlete physical evaluations and arrange medical referrals when necessary.
  • Assist in maintaining student-athlete health and injury records.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with NCAA, SCIAC, OSHA, HIPAA, FERPA, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Report compliance issues to the CMS Compliance Office regarding countable athletically related activities, student-athlete welfare, and applicable NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Participate as a clinical preceptor in the Athletic Training Education Program when assigned.
  • Perform administrative duties including inventory, facility maintenance, student aide scheduling, student payroll, and insurance administration.
  • Interact with intercollegiate athletics, the campus, and off-campus medical communities.
  • Comply with NCAA Division III, CMS Athletics, and SCIAC rules and guidelines and report violations or concerns to the CMS Compliance Department.
  • Maintain required training and certifications, including concussion management, mental health resources, and sexual violence prevention.
  • Supervise student athletic trainers.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in athletic training or a related field of study is preferred.
  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR/First-Aid Certified Instructor certification is preferred.
