Requirements
  • The candidate must be at least 21 years old.
  • The candidate must have a minimum of six months of supervisory experience.
  • The candidate must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • The candidate must be able to read, write, understand, and follow directions.
  • The candidate must possess written and verbal communication skills.
  • The candidate must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • The candidate must be able to bend, stoop, squat, and reach overhead as needed.
  • The candidate must be CPR certified or willing to become CPR certified within 60 days of hire.
  • The candidate must have or obtain a Certified Nursing Assistant or Personal Care Aide Certificate with 80-hour Personal Care Aide training within six months of hire.
  • The candidate must have or obtain a 15-hour Medication Aide Certificate within 30 days of hire.
  • The candidate must complete the Medication Aide check-off within 30 days of hire.
  • The candidate must have or obtain Medication Aide Certification within 60 days of completing the check-off.
  • The candidate must have no substantiated findings on the North Carolina Personnel Registry or Health Care Program and must maintain this status during employment.
  • The candidate must have a clear SBI record and maintain this status during employment.
  • The candidate must complete a two-step tuberculin skin test, with the first test before hire and the second within two weeks of the first.
  • The candidate must be able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • The candidate must be able to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and personnel, and the general public.
  • The candidate must be able and willing to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • The candidate must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and sometimes hostile people within the community.
  • The candidate must maintain resident confidentiality and resident rights at all times.
  • The candidate must be available to assist in evacuating residents during emergencies.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Executive Director or Administrator with management duties and assume full management of the home when the Executive Director or Administrator is absent.
  • Supervise staff and maintain the home's operations in compliance with licensing rules.
  • Follow facility policies and procedures for administering medications to residents.
  • Note and report medication administration errors.
  • Assist in developing and implementing facility procedures or programs to identify when, where, and why medication errors occur and how to prevent them.
  • Complete and submit required forms, charts, reports, and other administrative documentation.
  • Participate and cooperate in facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized government agencies at the Administrator's request.
  • Participate in quality assurance programs, the Pharmaceutical Services Committee, and other facility committees or programs affecting medication administration and medication process accuracy.
  • Attend and participate in care plan meetings as necessary.
  • Attend and participate in continuing education programs to stay current with professional changes and maintain certification.
  • Follow established safety precautions and report hazardous conditions and equipment.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living according to their care plans.
  • Help maintain each resident's self-respect, personal dignity, and physical safety.
  • Work cooperatively with staff and relate favorably to residents, families, and visitors.
  • Work with the resident care coordinator or Administrator to resolve residents' needs.
  • Find coverage for call-ins involving direct-care staff.
  • Keep the work schedule updated when call-outs or changes occur.
  • Ensure that staff training is current and documented.
  • Monitor the halls continuously.
  • Conduct staff orientation and supervision during the assigned shift.
  • Assist with orienting new residents to the home.
  • Ensure residents' general well-being at all times.
  • Meet visitors, responsible parties, family members, and social workers and assist with their visits.
  • Conduct facility tours as needed.
  • Apply the adult care home's accident, fire-safety, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and emergency procedures.
  • Listen to staff and resident concerns or comments and report issues to the Administrator.
  • Ensure prompt and appropriate staff responses to call lights, alarms, and other signaling devices.
  • Ensure that residents' care plans are appropriately implemented.
  • Ensure that medications are stored properly in the building.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with the nursing department, attending physicians, the Medical Director, and pharmacists.
  • Report resident complaints or grievances to the Administrator.
  • Be familiar with residents' bills of rights and assist residents in exercising those rights.
  • Immediately notify the Director of concerns about neglect, abuse, or exploitation by other staff.
  • Follow federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements.
  • Perform other duties required by circumstances.
