Board unveils a new update for continuous planning. Presented on August 6, 2026, the new version of Board extends AI agents to finance, merchandising and supply chain. It connects their analyses to planning workflows, enriches business context and strengthens governance, security, usage monitoring and version management. Innovations 12 August 2026 4 min de lecture Board announces a new version of its platform designed to strengthen continuous planning through artificial intelligence. Presented on August 6, 2026, this update extends AI agent capabilities to several business functions while enhancing workflow integration, data analysis and governance measures. More specialized AI agents. This new version continues the development of Board Agents, introduced earlier in the year. These agents are designed to support teams in their planning activities by analyzing trends, identifying their causes and evaluating different scenarios. In finance, the FP&A Agent notably gains a new capability for causal performance analysis. It can explain the factors behind financial results, produce commentary for executives and go beyond simply identifying variances. The Controller Agent, for its part, provides dedicated functionality for reconciliations, close validation, and account and cash flow mapping. Board is also extending its agents to other business functions. The Merchandiser Agent supports commercial planning and inventory management activities, while the Supply Chain Agent is designed to identify risks, disruptions and operational constraints to facilitate trade-off decisions. From analysis to action. One of the key developments concerns the connection between artificial intelligence and planning processes. With the new Agentic Workflow Integration, the results produced by agents can be sent directly to Smart Import as structured data. This approach aims to reduce the gap between analysis and its application in planning models. However, users retain control over the final data integration step. Agent-generated responses also become more interactive, with the ability to sort, filter, rearrange, copy or export the tables produced during conversations. An architecture designed for the enterprise. At the same time, Board is strengthening the technical foundations of its agents. They now operate on a new orchestration architecture based on the Microsoft Agent Framework and Microsoft Azure. According to Board, this evolution should improve scalability, observability and the parallel orchestration of multiple agents. The platform also introduces Dataset Attributes, which make it possible to enrich data with descriptions using the company's own terminology. The aim is to give agents a better understanding of business context and promote responses that are more consistent with the concepts used by teams. Governance at the heart of deployment. The vendor is also emphasizing the conditions required for deploying AI in large organizations. The new version notably introduces a consumption-based licensing model for Board Agents, with a shared API credit system and tools to monitor and administer usage. Board is also adding an agent version management feature, enabling companies to control when they adopt new capabilities. Enhancements related to data residency, security and governance controls complete this framework. More continuous planning. With this new version, Board is therefore continuing along an already established path: evolving planning from a model based on periodic cycles toward a more continuous model in which data, artificial intelligence and operational processes are more closely connected. The aim is less to replace teams than to provide them with tools capable of analyzing situations more quickly, identifying the determining factors and facilitating decision-making. Board thus presents this evolution as a step toward planning in which humans and AI work together, while maintaining a control framework suited to enterprise requirements. Board introduces the Contextual Decision Layer, turning enterprise data and AI investments into smarter business decisions. By connecting governed data, AI, and enterprise planning, Board helps organizations align finance and operations driving measurable business outcomes. BOSTON - August 6, 2026 - Board, the Enterprise Planning Platform, today introduced the Contextual Decision Layer for Continuous Planning, designed to help organizations turn enterprise data fabric and artificial intelligence investments into governed plans, forecasts, scenarios, and aligned business decisions. Enterprises have invested heavily in cloud data platforms, analytics, machine learning, and generative AI. Yet many organizations still struggle to translate these investments into better financial and operational decisions. Business definitions remain fragmented across multiple systems, planning remains siloed, and AI-generated insights often lack the context, workflow, and accountability required for enterprise decision-making. The Board Contextual Decision Layer helps close this gap by connecting governed enterprise data and AI services with the business semantics, planning models, deterministic calculations, scenarios, workflows, permissions, and controls required for Continuous Planning. Activate and enrich enterprise data platforms with decision context. Modern enterprise data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, and Microsoft Fabric unify information across ERP, CRM, supply chain, HR, finance, and other operational systems to provide scalable foundations for governed data, analytics, machine learning, and AI. The Board Contextual Decision Layer complements these investments by enriching governed enterprise data with planning-ready business context, including: * Shared business definitions, metrics, and hierarchies * Plans, forecasts, scenarios, versions, and assumptions * Deterministic calculations and planning logic * Operational constraints and business policies * Workflow, approvals, ownership, and collaboration * Security, permissions, lineage, and auditability Rather than creating another data repository, Board activates enterprise data by connecting it to the planning models, governance, and decision workflows required for Continuous Planning. Working within existing enterprise architectures, Board enriches enterprise data with financial and operational context, enabling organizations to continuously evaluate scenarios, align decisions across functions, and publish approved plans back into downstream business processes. The result is a continuous, governed cycle between enterprise data, planning, decisions, execution, and business outcomes. Creating a governed foundation for enterprise AI. AI is changing how business users analyze information, explain performance, explore scenarios, and prepare recommendations. However, general-purpose AI models do not inherently understand an organization's definitions, planning structures, business rules, approval processes, or operational constraints. Through the Contextual Decision Layer, Board provides the trusted business context in which AI can operate. Instead of asking AI to infer enterprise meaning from disconnected data, Board grounds agentic planning in governed models, semantic definitions, deterministic calculations, permissions, and human oversight, helping organizations improve the relevance, repeatability, and explainability of AI-supported decisions. "AI can generate an answer, but enterprise planning must produce a decision that the organization can understand, calculate, govern, approve, and act on," said David Marmer, Chief Product Officer at Board. "The Board Contextual Decision Layer grounds AI in trusted business definitions, planning models, deterministic logic, and controlled workflows. That is what makes AI operationally useful for critical financial and operational decisions." Board delivers Continuous Planning. The Contextual Decision Layer supports Continuous Planning, an always-on approach in which plans and forecasts adapt as internal performance, external signals, assumptions, and business conditions change. By connecting financial and operational planning in one governed environment, Board helps organizations: * Detect and respond to changing business conditions sooner * Continuously update plans and forecasts * Evaluate financial and operational trade-offs * Model scenarios using consistent assumptions and constraints * Improve alignment across finance, supply chain, merchandising, and operations * Maintain accountability through workflow, approvals, and auditability * Publish approved plans and decisions into downstream operational processes Extending governance from data to decisions. As organizations operationalize AI, governance must extend beyond the data platform and into the decisions AI helps inform. Board supports this requirement by applying enterprise controls throughout the planning lifecycle, including role-based access, data-level security, versioning, workflow approvals, human review, traceability, and audit trails. For CIOs, CDOs, CAIOs, CISOs, and enterprise architects, the Contextual Decision Layer provides a governed approach for operationalizing AI within high-impact planning processes without creating another disconnected system of record. For CFOs and operational leaders, it provides a shared environment for understanding performance, evaluating risk, testing scenarios, and making more aligned decisions as conditions change. "Enterprises have made significant investments in modern data platforms and AI, but insight alone does not create an executable business plan," said F.J. Gould, Chief Partner Officer at Board. "The Board Contextual Decision Layer helps organizations activate those investments by adding the planning context, governance, and decision workflows needed to align finance and operations and turn intelligence into action. Enterprise technology strategies increasingly depend on the ability to connect trusted data, AI, and business action. Board provides the planning and decision context that helps make that connection practical, governed, and relevant to the way organizations actually operate." About Board. Board is the Enterprise Planning Platform that enables Continuous Planning by combining internal and external signals, economic intelligence, and AI in a unified environment. This allows organizations to adapt to change, improve forecast accuracy, and gain a clear understanding of performance, risk, and trade-offs. By connecting financial and operational planning with decision intelligence, Board helps organizations make more aligned, confident decisions across the business. That's why visionary global brands including H&M, BASF, Burberry, Toyota, Coca-Cola, HSBC, and thousands more across the globe trust Board to navigate volatile markets with confidence.
