Barclays lifts S&P 500 target to 7,950 on strong earnings and AI spending

Barclays has raised its year-end S&P 500 target to 7,950 from 7,800, driven by strong earnings growth and artificial intelligence-related spending. The bank's US equity strategist Venu Krishna increased the 2026 earnings forecast to $365 per share from $337, whilst the 2027 estimate rose to $414 from $389. Big Tech profits surged 35% year-on-year in the second quarter, with 86% of S&P 500 companies exceeding Wall Street estimates. Cloud providers are expected to spend over $1.1 trillion by 2027, with Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta Platforms accounting for much of that investment. Barclays joins other firms including JPMorgan, CFRA, and HSBC in raising index targets.

Dell raises $5B in bond sale as AI server demand drives stock up over 400%

Dell is raising $5 billion through an investment-grade bond sale, attracting approximately $23 billion in investor orders at peak demand — nearly five times the offering size. The company, initially targeting $4 billion, is issuing bonds across four tranches with maturities from three to 10 years. Proceeds will repay notes maturing this year, including $2.3 billion due in October, and fund general corporate purposes. The sale reflects strong investor confidence in Dell's AI server business, which has driven the company's stock to quadruple this year. Dell recently increased its fiscal-year sales forecast by $25 billion, securing contracts for machines featuring Nvidia AI chips and traditional servers. Eight banks are managing the offering, part of 16 US investment-grade deals this week.
