Elanco invites farmers to practical NSA Sheep Q&A. 22 Jul 2026 What if a few simple tweaks to parasite management could help lambs grow faster, finish quicker and boost overall flock productivity? That's the question Elanco will be exploring during an interactive Q&A session on its stand at this year's NSA Sheep Event, giving farmers the opportunity to hear others' experiences, share ideas and discuss how parasite control strategies are evolving. Drawing on findings from Elanco's recent parasite survey of 360 farmers, the session will explore how parasite challenges and treatment timings are changing alongside shifting weather patterns, and what that means for flock performance. "The discussion will focus on what farmers are seeing on their own farms, when and how they are testing, how those results are influencing management decisions, and the role group 4 and 5 wormers can play within wider flock health plans," says Fiona Hutchings, ruminant technical and marketing manager at Elanco. Joining the discussion will be Devon sheep farmer Richard Stanbury, of Weston Farm, who will share how everyday management decisions, such as body condition scoring, weighing, grazing management, and better use of flock data have helped him make more informed choices. Richard has been working with consultants and advisers as part of a three-year project with Elanco to review current flock performance and identify ways to improve via data collection, regular body condition scoring and faecal egg counts. The session forms part of Elanco's new Better Butt campaign, which shines a spotlight on the importance of good worm management in supporting flock performance, explains Fiona. "Whether it's improving lamb growth rates, increasing feed efficiency, getting lambs finished sooner or improving ewe condition, the campaign is designed to help farmers build on the good work already happening on farm to unlock a little bit more from their flock", she says. Farmers interested in finding out whether there are easy wins to achieve extra performance on their own farm are encouraged to head to the Elanco stand at NSA Sheep Event, Three Counties Showground, Malvern, on 28 July at 2pm for the Q&A session.
New oral treatment for CKD-related anaemia in cats. 17 Jul 2026 7:00 AM Elanco Animal Health has launched a new treatment to manage feline chronic kidney disease (CKD) anaemia. Varenzin is now available to practices across the UK and offers pet owners "a first-of-its-kind oral suspension that can be administered daily at home". In clinical studies, 68% of cats achieved treatment success after one month. Presented as a once-daily fish oil-flavoured formulation, with "a strong acceptance rate of 88%", the product is designed to stimulate a cat's natural endogenous erythropoietin production (EPO), which is often reduced in cats with kidney disease. The active substance, molidustat, belongs to a novel class of hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase (HIF-PH) inhibitors and works by activating the body's natural response to low oxygen levels, boosting EPO production and thereby stimulating red blood cell production by the bone marrow, Elanco states.
National Advertising Division finds certain PetIQ claims supported; recommends other comparative claims be modified or discontinued. New York, NY, July 16, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Following a challenge brought by Elanco Animal Health Incorporated, BBB National Programs' National Advertising Division determined that PetIQ, LLC provided a reasonable basis for its vet-recommended active-ingredient claims for its PetArmor(R) Extend Flea & Tick Collar. However, the National Advertising Division (NAD) recommended that PetIQ modify or discontinue certain claims regarding market leadership, brand growth, consumer trust, comparative performance, and product attributes. PetIQ and Elanco compete in the market for pet flea-and-tick prevention products. Elanco markets Seresto and PetIQ markets PetArmor Extend, which each contain the active ingredients imidacloprid and flumethrin. Elanco challenged PetIQ's brand-superiority and vet-recommended ingredient claims for its PetArmor flea and tick lineup, including assertions that PetArmor Extend is made with the "#1 vet-recommended" active ingredients, alongside claims that PetIQ is the "#1 brand in total solutions" and the "#1 fastest-growing brand" in the category. NAD determined that PetIQ provided a reasonable basis for its vet-recommended active-ingredient claims, finding that PetIQ's survey evidence supported the message that veterinarians recommend the imidacloprid and flumethrin active-ingredient combination more than other flea-and-tick collar active-ingredient combinations. However, NAD determined that PetIQ did not provide adequate support for the broad market-leadership message conveyed by its "#1 Brand in Total Flea & Tick Solutions" claim or the unqualified growth message conveyed by its "#1 Fastest Growing Flea & Tick Brand" claim. Therefore, NAD recommended that the challenged "#1 Brand" and "#1 Fastest Growing" claims be discontinued or modified to avoid conveying unsupported market leadership and growth messages. Additionally, NAD recommended that PetIQ discontinue or modify its challenged "trusted by millions," duration, comparative performance, and product attribute claims to avoid conveying unsupported messages. In its advertiser statement, PetIQ stated it "agrees to comply with its decision." All BBB National Programs case decision summaries can be found in the case decision library.
