Alongside the raise, Harvey also announced its acquisition of San Francisco-based Guardrails AI, an AI security platform for agents. The company's co-founders Shreya Rajpal and Zayd Simjee and their team will join Harvey's product and engineering organisation, the company said in an announcement today (9 September). The company's platform is used by a majority of the world's largest law firms, as well as by in-house legal teams at five of the Fortune 10, it said. The latest funding round comes just after Harvey unveiled its first post-trained open-weight model called Harvey Tenet. The model has a base built from Chinese AI start-up Moonshot's Kimi K3 and is trained specifically for legal tasks. Earlier this year, it opened an office in Dublin with plans to hire more than 40 employees over the next two years. The office was initially announced in January with early hiring plans eyeing 20 roles in the first year. Suhasini Srinivasaragavan is a sci-tech reporter for Silicon Republic

Harvey closes $550M round at $15.6B valuation and acquires Guardrails AI

Harvey has closed a $550 million funding round at a $15.6 billion valuation and acquired AI agent security startup Guardrails AI. The round was co-led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Diffusion, with participation from Sapphire Ventures and Whale Rock Capital Management. The legal AI company has raised more than $1.5 billion total, making it the most valuable and best-funded firm in its sector. Annual recurring revenue has surpassed $400 million, whilst the customer base has grown to over 3,000 organisations, up from 1,300 in March. Harvey recently released Tenet, its first fine-tuned legal model, built on Moonshot AI's Kimi K3. The company routes tasks to the cheapest capable model rather than using one model for every request. This is Harvey's fourth acquisition this year, with terms undisclosed.
