  • MT/CLS and MLT/CLT state licenses are required.
  • CPR certification is required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform direct patient-contact duties involving venipuncture and capillary-stick blood collection.
  • Properly identify patients, collect samples, and label specimens.
  • Assist with the collection and processing of waived tests.
  • Prepare and process reference-laboratory specimens daily, including drug-screen collections.
  • Collect specimens at nursing homes when necessary.
  • Perform waived testing, including urine pregnancy tests, dipstick urinalysis, rapid streptococcal testing, influenza testing, respiratory syncytial virus testing, glucose-meter testing, and rapid drug screens.
  • Perform and document controls and patient results for waived tests.
  • Collect blood samples for laboratory testing after proper patient identification and label all submitted samples correctly.
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager with inventory, ordering, and maintaining current temperature logs.
  • Train phlebotomy and medical laboratory technician students rotating through the laboratory.
  • Maintain knowledge of infection control, biohazardous-material disposal, requisition handling, interpersonal communication, and difficult-situation management.
  • Assist with emergency life-sustaining procedures until a physician assumes judgment and decision-making responsibilities.
  • Handle reagent containers weighing less than 30 pounds and change reagents on instruments as needed.
