Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.
  • Two years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinic or outpatient setting, or one year in the Novice-II position, is required.
  • Basic Life Support or Instructor certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA, or certification as a Registered Medical Assistant or EMT, is required.
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English is required.
  • Knowledge of medical practice, patient care, examinations, diagnostic and treatment procedures, medical equipment, and instruments is required.
  • Proficiency in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes is required.
  • Current required certifications and completion of continuous training and education must be maintained.
Responsibilities
  • Assist providers with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatments, and dressing changes under appropriate supervision.
  • Perform general administrative duties in accordance with applicable clinical, privacy, quality, and government standards and company policies.
  • Schedule patient appointments, ensure medical necessity compliance, and verify eligibility for care as required.
  • Obtain and document patients’ vital signs, chief complaints, medication reviews, and medical and social histories as appropriate.
  • Document care, diagnostic measurements, treatments, and procedures in the electronic medical record.
  • Follow up with patients regarding recommendations, medications, laboratory and radiology results, special visits, primary care visits, dietitians, and diabetes educators.
  • Support patient utilization and activation of MyChart.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Report patient observations, conditions, and problems to physicians or nurses.
  • Sterilize instruments and equipment under supervision.
  • Stock examination rooms and take inventory while using supplies efficiently.
  • Manage time and prioritize daily tasks, assist team members, and minimize incidental overtime.
  • Participate in performance-improvement projects and professional-development activities.
  • Seek guidance and validation from preceptors and assigned licensed personnel when needed.
  • Complete and update the My Development Plan on an ongoing basis.
  • Take telephone or email messages and forward them to the provider or registered nurse.
  • Communicate and report pertinent patient-care information to the interprofessional team.
  • Travel within the Houston metropolitan area as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification through ACA is preferred.
