We are seeking a Construction Engineer / Facilities Engineer to support healthcare facility upgrades and renovation projects within a VA Medical Center environment in Salem, VA.
This role is focused on construction execution, field coordination, and project delivery, working closely with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
This position is ideal for candidates with strong hands-on construction and facilities experience who are comfortable operating in a project execution and coordination capacity.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and support construction and renovation projects in a live healthcare environment
- Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders
- Review construction documents including drawings, specifications, RFIs, and submittals
- Monitor project schedules and ensure timely execution of work
- Support cost tracking, budgeting, and project reporting
- Ensure compliance with building codes, safety standards, and VA design requirements
- Assist in resolving field issues and coordinating solutions across teams
- Maintain documentation related to construction progress, changes, and project closeout

Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience supporting construction, facilities, or infrastructure projects
- Experience working on healthcare, hospital, or medical facility projects
- Strong understanding of construction processes, contract documents, and project execution
- Experience with tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar
- Ability to work on-site in Salem, VA
- U.S. Citizenship required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting VA Medical Center or federal healthcare projects
- Background in mechanical, electrical, or architectural disciplines
- Experience working in live/active facility environments
- Professional licensure (PE or RA) is preferred but not required
