Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in biological sciences or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
  • HTL or another technologist-level special laboratory certification is required.
  • Successful completion of a background check is required.
  • A pre-employment physical, including a drug screen, may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide histological services to Dermatology Department physicians performing Mohs surgeries and support the histology laboratory in Surgical Pathology.
  • Process, orient, and appropriately embed tissue specimens according to tissue type during Mohs procedures.
  • Log specimens into the computer, process and embed tissue, prepare frozen sections, sort and cut specimens, file materials, prepare reagents, and perform special stains and tissue-slide staining.
  • Handle general paperwork, maintain equipment, assist with quality-control and quality-assurance metrics, conduct procedural audits, and prepare for accreditation.
  • Train staff and troubleshoot mechanical and human errors or malfunctions.
Desired Qualifications
  • Graduation from a NAACLS-accredited histotechnician or histotechnologist program.
  • Three to five years of experience in a histology laboratory.
  • Experience with Mohs procedures.
