Bill Gates' foundation trust and Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway both held stakes in Kraft Heinz as of the second quarter. Berkshire's position represented 2.6% of its portfolio, whilst the Gates Foundation held approximately $58.4 million worth of shares. New CEO Steve Cahillane has shown signs of progress in his turnaround efforts. The company improved its full-year organic sales guidance and raised free cash flow conversion guidance to approximately 110% from 100%. Free cash flow rose 10% year over year in the recent quarter. Cahillane purchased 213,106 shares worth roughly $5 million in May. However, adjusted operating income fell 18.4% last quarter, driven by higher marketing spend and compensation costs.
Kraft Heinz focuses innovation to address 'unmet' consumer diet needs. Lactose-free Philadelphia cream cheese and clean-label Heinz ketchup could attract consumers previously unable to engage with the food giant's portfolio. Published Aug. 17, 2026 Kraft Heinz is innovating its top brands to win consumers that have been sidelined by dietary restrictions or preferences. Most recently, Kraft Heinz introduced a lactose-free version of Philadelphia cream cheese, a few years after launching a plant-based spread for vegans. It also has debuted a gluten-free offering of Velveeta Shells & Cheese and a plant-based version of its Kraft Mac & Cheese. These innovations come as Kraft Heinz and other food giants respond to growing consumer interest in healthy or in-demand ingredients, in addition to less processed options. Kraft Heinz has also launched offerings that address other trends infiltrating food. It has a Jell-O with no artificial colors or sweeteners, a Kraft Mac & Cheese with extra protein and Heinz Simply, a clean-label version of the popular ketchup using recognizable ingredients. More products are in the works. "We're going to go aggressively attack those trends, making sure that we have the right product for those unmet needs," said Jerome Drolet, Kraft Heinz's new president of taste elevation. Drolet didn't quantify the sales potential, but he called the opportunities "significant" for Kraft Heinz, which posted $25 billion in net sales last year. Similar to its competitors, Kraft Heinz has seen its business struggle as consumers cut back on highly processed food in favor of better-for-you offerings. Inflation has only exacerbated the challenges as shoppers curtail their spending. Organic net sales have declined during the last two years, slipping 3.4% alone in 2025. There are signs of improvement at Kraft Heinz, however, with organic sales down 1.3% during its second quarter ended June 27. The rollout of Philadelphia lactose-free cream cheese provides the latest example of how Kraft Heinz is approaching innovation of its core brands, a key pillar of the company's growth strategy. As many as 50 million U.S. consumers are affected by the digestive condition, according to Kraft Heinz. The company found there weren't other brands on the market that met the needs of lactose-intolerant consumers on a wide enough scale, creating an opportunity for its top-selling Philadelphia cream cheese. The offering, the largest investment the company has made behind a brand innovation in three years, immediately makes Philadelphia accessible to millions of consumers who otherwise wouldn't have purchased it for use in frostings, bagels and other foods. Instead of launching an entirely new brand, Drolet said Kraft Heinz has devoted more attention to innovating its existing products that have already built up trust and recognition among shoppers and retailers. Before entering a space, Kraft Heinz must determine whether the trend will last, which of its brands are best positioned to benefit, and whether the new innovation can reach enough consumers to justify the time and money required to develop and market it. "In the end, we need to deliver for the business," Drolet observed. "What we don't want... is consumers having to compromise, whether it's on price or on taste." While Kraft Heinz is prioritizing speedy innovation, it's not worried if competitors beat the food behemoth to the market. The food manufacturer noted that when it launched gluten-free Mac & Cheese in 2020, it was one of the last to enter the space as the company worked on perfecting the quality and ensuring it tasted like the traditional version of the product. Today, its Mac & Cheese is the top-selling gluten-free brand in the category. The innovation comes as Kraft Heinz's new CEO Steve Cahillane announced plans earlier this month to increase spending to $700 million, up from $600 million. The investment will boost marketing, sales and research and development to improve "product superiority" in hopes of returning the company to growth. So far, it appears the focus on innovation is paying off.

Kraft Heinz reports weak Q2 performance. Kraft Heinz net sales have fallen by 1.4 per cent year-on-year to approximately £4.6bn in Q2, with the group blaming a shift in Easter timing and inflationary pressures. The company's volume and mix went down by 2.6 per cent compared to the year before, with declines in North America and international developed markets segments. According to the business, the decrease in volume was driven by declines in meats and spoonables as well as a shift in Easter timing. Kraft Heinz's adjusted operating income decreased by 18.4 per cent compared to the year prior to approximately £0.74bn. This decline in adjusted operating income was driven by higher advertising expenses, unfavourable volume and inflationary pressures in manufacturing and logistics costs. The company's gross profit went down by 7.1 per cent to around £2.1bn compared to £1.6bn at the same time last year. Steve Cahillane, CEO of Kraft Heinz said: "Grocery Gazette delivered another solid quarter, with results that exceeded its expectations across U.S. Retail, Global Away From Home, and Emerging Markets. "Our brands are resonating with consumers, and our share performance is improving. The progress we are seeing gives us the confidence to raise our organic net sales outlook for the year." "Building on this momentum, we are also increasing our incremental investments by $100 million, to approximately $700 million in 2026. We have seen that our brands respond well when we invest behind them. By accelerating these investments, we position the business even more favourably as we enter 2027." Moving forward, Kraft Heinz expects organic sales in the full-year to decrease by between 0.5 per cent to 2 per cent and for adjusted operating income to go down by between 16 per cent and 18 per cent.
Disney & Kraft Heinz forge multi-year partnership. By Aaron Baar July 23, 2026 * The Kraft Heinz Company and The Walt Disney Company have entered into a long-term multi-year partnership spanning foodservice, media, events and other opportunities. * The pact includes 10 Kraft Heinz brands - including Heinz, Philadelphia and Kraft Mac & Cheese - and spans across Disney's entertainment properties, including parks, cruises and streaming. * In announcing the partnership, both brands said the partnership "unlocks opportunities for integrated marketing campaigns, digital content and brand-led marketing campaigns," as well as developing new menu offerings and dining experiences. The alliance will officially launch this summer at Disney's North American parks, resorts and cruises with features such as installing Heinz condiment stations and custom-designed equipment throughout the parks. Heinz will also show off new sauces and condiments from its "Sauce Vault" at Disney's D23 fan event this August. "Kraft Heinz and Disney are two companies that are woven into the fabric of family life," said Nicolas Amaya, president of North America at Kraft Heinz Company, in a statement. "For generations, families have grown up with our brands side by side - watching Disney favorites with a bowl of Kraft Mac & Cheese or reaching for Heinz at the table. This alliance is about showing up together in the moments that matter most - whether at the parks or at home - to deliver elevated experiences and storytelling that turn everyday meals into memories that last a lifetime." "Disney Corporate Alliances is focused on working with iconic brands with shared values to create meaningful experiences that bring families closer to the stories and places they love," Becca Vodnoy, senior vice president of corporate alliances at The Walt Disney Company, added in a statement. "The collaboration with Kraft Heinz is the perfect demonstration of another brand that understands how families connect through everyday moments, and together we will build creative experiences for our consumers across our destinations, platforms and fan touchpoints."
