Position Summary:

The candidate will work within the context of the research team at the Radiochemistry-cyclotron Unit, McConnell Brain Imaging Centre under the supervision of the facility director and the production manager. She/he will be responsible for the production of radiotracers following the established SOPs, starting from the operation of the cyclotron to the actual radiochemistry and the final packaging. She/he will be trained on cyclotron operations, on workplace hazardous materials (WHMIS) and radiation safety. The QA and the quality control supervisor for radiotracers will also provide individual training on SOPs and GMP guidelines applicable to the production of radiotracrs. GMP training will be kept updated.

She/He will be also responsible for completing the production paperwork, shipping of radiotracers inventory of production-related consumables, cleaning of production facility (in coordination with GMP regulations), perform environmental monitoring during production and doing maintenance and calibration of production equipment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participate in the production and quality control of research and clinical radiotracers. Participate in the production and quality control of FDG or other tracers sometimes in the early morning hours.

• Prepare the precursor ahead of the production. Perform technical tasks in the fields of preparative HPLC and synthesis modules.

• Participate on the maintenance of the cyclotron.

• Organize and carries out laboratory projects and experiments within objectives set by the supervisor.

• Reviews, selects and modifies methodology and performs literature searches. Prepare stock solutions for HPLC.

• Provide technical guidance and assistance concerning work methods, the use of equipment and accompanied technical material, to researchers using the PET facilities.

• Apply principles and applications of CNSC radiation safety regulations, and Health Canada GLP/GMP regulations.

• Compiles and maintains experimental and analytical data as well as assures that backups are routinely made.

• Analyzes and discusses results and their interpretation with the director and other lab members.

• Participate in devising new experimental methodology and help optimize new procedures.

• Ensure cleanliness and safety of the work area, proper storage, handling, and disposal of organic, biological and radioactive materials. That includes cleanroom cleaning and environmental monitoring.

• Understand the procedures and requirements of each new study.

• Use and maintain equipment and assures proper working procedures and cleanliness in use by others in the lab.

• Maintain chemical and equipment inventories, ensures compliance with safety regulations in the use of equipment.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

• B.Sc. degree, in radiochemistry, organic or analytical chemistry or related fields with 2 years of work experience. Experience with radiochemistry and/or GMP and/or animal scan is an asset.

• Knowledge of organic syntheses GC and HPLC.

• Team player and dedication to the work at hand.

• Ability to work autonomously and apply good judgment contextually.

• Willingness to learn new techniques.

• Good communication skills in French and English.

• 7:00 to 4:00 work schedule.  Flexible working hours required. Weekend work may be required occasionally
